Escorting my current patient to the door and saying good bye, I then made my way back to the front desk and picked up the next folder with my next patient. Removing the paper clip and sliding the sheet off paper out, I read the name on the top right section of the document.
"I.N" : and gazed out to the waiting area.
Spotting a cute boy smile, he made his way over and gazed at me with an eye smile. Giggling to myself at how adorable he was, I led him to the room and shut the door behind us.
"Take a seat." I announced, and gestured to the chair.
Obeying, he sat down and placed his hands onto his lap, before cutely sitting back. Letting another giggle slip out, he let one out a few seconds.
"What's so funny?" He asked.
"Nothing, you're just very cute." I answered.
"Oh, right." He chuckled.
"Anyway sir, why have you come in today?" I continued, and spun around to face him.
"I'm here for my regular check up." He smiled.
"Okay, sounds good." I said, and brought over the equipment used for this particular appointment.
As regular check ups didn't take up too much time, I got straight into it.
"Alright I.N, please follow this finger." I said, and brought over a small torch and shone it into his left eye, whilst my finger, which made he follow it a few seconds later.
"Good, now the other eye." I continued, and switched arms.
Moving my other finger, he did the same thing and followed it closely.
"Good." I added, and turned the torch off.
Placing it into my pocket, I then opened an icy pole stick and moved a bit closer.
"Now I'm going to check your throat. Can you please open up for me" : and gently brought it towards his lips.
Nodding, he opened up, and using the torch again, I shone it into his mouth and rested the icy pole stick on his tongue. Examining his gag reflex carefully, I then made sure there wasn't any swelling or redness on the surface, before checking the back of his throat afterwards.
Moving the light around and inspecting every part, everything seemed okay, and there was no sign of any viral infections. Accidentally pushing the icy pole towards the back of his throat, he gagged, which made me jump.
"Aish, I'm so sorry!" I said, and immediately pulled it out, before tossing into the bin.
"It's okay." He giggled, and coughed cutely.
"Sorry about that." I repeated.
"All good doctor." He smiled.
"Alright, now I'm going to check your heart." I announced, and brought over the stethoscope.
Putting it on, I held onto the cold metal part, and moved forward again. Lifting his t shirt all the way and flashing his chest, I took a quick glance at his body, which made my heart flutter. Pressing the circular object onto his skin, he whimpered about and surpassed his laughter.
"Sorry if it's cold." I chuckled, and slowly motioned it down to the centre of his chest.
Listening to the calm, steady beat of his heart, the silence that fell over us created an awkward and slightly dramatic atmosphere, but I was use to this kind of mood after performing so many heart check ups. Lifting the metallic end off after a minute or so, I removed the stethoscope and placed it on my desk.
"Your heart sounds very healthy." I said. "No irregular beats."
"Oh, that's good." He answered, and brought his t shirt back down.
"Yes." I added.
Moving onto the next part of the check up, which required me to physically touch him, I rolled up the sleeves of my coat and washed my hands with soap. Drying them, I made my way back over and instructed him to sit forward.
"I.N, can you please come a bit closer."
"Sure." He smiled, and sat forward until our knees touched.
"Good." I continued, and placed my hands on his neck. "I'm checking to make sure you don't have a temperature. Hmm, it seems to be normal." : and gently moved my hands up to his face.
Pulling away a few seconds later, I wheeled myself back over to my desk and filled out a document.
"So, is that all doctor?" He asked politely.
"Yes." I replied, and finished up signing a sheet of paper.
Filing it into a folder, I turned back to face him and reached for the lolly jar. Moving close so he could pick out what he wanted, his eyes lit up and the same cute smile formed on his lips.
"Thanks for being a good patient." I said with a smile, and opened the jar.
"Thank you." He answered, and reached in.
"You're welcome." I continued.
Pulling out a medium sized lollipop with a colourful swirl, I placed the jar back onto the desk afterwards, and finished up.
"Thanks again doctor. I'll be sure to come back in a few months time." He concluded, and stood up.
"Yes, I'll see you again in a few months." I replied, and led him to the door.
Opening it and escorting him out to the entrance, I greeted him one last time and waved good bye.
"Stay healthy okay I.N."
"I will, see you soon doctor." He said, and waved back, before walking out.
Once he was gone, I moved on to the next patient.
