Brandee's POV
Its been a whole damn year and I'm happier than I've ever been. I got the job at the firm. Devin and I are stronger than ever.
We moved out of his old house and got a new one so we could start our lives over together. We even have a baby.
Well, not exactly our baby. I was told I couldn't have kids after trying for 3 months. Yes, that means Devin and I have finally been doing it. And it's amazing, but that's not important.
Danielle, Monte's mistress, had his child, but since he isn't around anymore, she felt like she couldn't handle raising a child alone. She called me up and asked if I wanted her baby girl, Isabella. I wanted to say no, but I couldn't let that baby fall into the system. So Devin and I have a daughter.
I bet you're wondering what happened to Monte. That night at the warehouse isn't exactly a memory I like to have.
"Devin, I love you."
Devin smiled before saying "I love-"
Monte aimed his gun at Devin and shots were fired. When I saw Monte about to fire at Devin, I worked up the strength to stop it. I pushed him as he pulled the trigger grazing Devin's ear.
Then, Devin shot Monte once in the chest and another in the head. One of his friends, Bunk, lit a match, setting the whole place on fire as we fled the scene like nothing happened.
A couple days later, we got a call from the Detectives and they said that they finally 'found' Monte. They questioned Devin, since he called Detective Holiday earlier that day.
"Devin, where were you a couple days ago? Wednesday at 11 PM to be exact?" Detective Baxter asked.
"I was at home." Devin answered nonchalant.
"Was Brandee with you?"
"Yes."
"Around what time did she get home?"
"Maybe 10:30, 10:45"
"Didn't you tell me she was missing?" Detective Holiday butted in.
"I thought she was. She was with her friend, Lisah. When she finally came home, we had a serious discussion."
The detectives left the room to talk privately before coming back in with pictures of Monte's burnt body.
"Do you know this man?" They asked.
"That's a man?" Devin chuckled. "I didn't even know it was a person."
"Well, this is Monte Wright's dead body. He died with a few other people in a fire. Know anything about that?"
Devin shrugged. "No. I barely even knew the cat."
"Isn't it true that he was Brandee's husband?"
"Mhmm."
"Wasn't she abused by him?"
"Yup."
"Well Devin, that gives you or Brandee the motive."
"Like I said, we were both at home. Where was this fire anyway?"
"48th Sicamore Lane."
Devin frowned. "I don't even know where that is."
"Of course you don't. We're done here." The detectives left the room.
