"Come on, JY, you're free, go, reach the door, the door is nearby, it's here, you're free, you're not gagged, you're talking, you're not tied up, you see, you're moving, you just have a
(HUGE)
hole in your throat, but Dr. Stenford will know what to do; we can put a band-aid on it or take the pill, as he always tells that dimwit of my mother," she chuckled.
She took a step toward the door, and the cot moved away from her, literally stretching in the opposite direction as if it were made of rubber.
She took another step.
The room distorted, opening up like stretched rubber. Blinding light poured in from the walls of the ceiling, so widened, the sun was blinding.
(WAS IT REALLY THE SUN?)
She lifted her face, trying to shield her eyes with both palms.
The light was intense and completely white, an extremely pure and dense white. Through its transparency, she glimpsed a sphere.
(IT'S MERCURY)
Mercury?
(VENUS, MARS, EARTH, JUPITER...)
"What the heck is Mercury doing on the ceiling of Ruth's shack?"
Above her, the entire constellation manifested with its incredible power. She could see the shapes of the mountains and the contours of the terrain, the changing and fading colors of the ground.
"Colored balls above my head... oil beneath my feet. Keep going, JY, there's always an after, there's always an after, the next moment is always different. You can believe it's different."
The orbit of Mercury turned towards her, Venus followed closely, not far behind. They deviated towards her, with her, she herself was rotating and inclining within the orbit of the solar constellation, gravity was absent, she had become a celestial body, an orbiting satellite.
(I'M FLYING, THE SHACK IS GONE, THE OIL IS GONE, I'M IN SPACE, THERE'S ONLY THE DAMN HOLE IN MY THROAT)
Space was cold; she was orbiting around Venus. The colors of the surface ranged from green meadows to cobalt blue, back to earthy desert.
Her ears perceived the sounds of the planets, a long hiss intoned on the notes of a song composed of a single syllable, like the song of a lonely, hoarse whale. They weren't sounds but electromagnetic vibrations; they reached her as sound waves, like waves drawn in space, coming from her, like waves in a still pond when a body impacted its surface.
(IMPACT)
Ethereal, unsettling vibrations traversed through the absence of oxygen.
(I'M BREATHING)
"You can't breathe in space, JY. You should explode due to gravitational force, or freeze from space's temperature."
The orbit led her away into the stars. She heard a chirping.
Far away.
Closer and closer.
The stars were magic.
A chirping.
Far away.
Closer and closer.
She saw a black mass in front of her.
Black.
Like a hole.
Black.
Jenny stopped in space.
