{Dalton's POV}
Finally, we reached our apartment, that was a bit of ways away from our schools. I got out of the car, and walked around to get Graham from the back. I opened his door and gave him a slight shake."Wake up, little buddy. We're at the house now." Just as I spoke, I saw his eyelashes flutter, and his eyes open. He unstrapped his seatbelt, and stepped out of the car. He was a pretty cute kid, I gotta say. Not just because he is my little brother, but because he's genuinely adorable. We walked into the house, and he plopped himself on the couch.
I couldn't help myself from thinking about her. The way the sunlight caught her eye, and it sparkled, the way her clothes hugged her body in the perfect way. She was just breathtaking. I snapped back into reality and have myself a little slap on the cheek. I saw Graham chuckle out of the corner of my eye.
Plans for dinner were simple, due to the fact that I had to head to work right away. I whipped up a quick spaghetti sauce and some pasta, sprinkled some Parmesan cheese on top. We ate up, and I gave Graham a kiss on the head, changed into my work clothes and left for work.
Once I pulled up to Taco Bell, I got out of my car and headed in. Behind the counter was my buddy Keith. He was a cool kid, he works to help pay for his mother's medical bills. He had a good head on his shoulders, and always had good intentions for everything. His mom has been in and out of the hospital for the past four years. One night, she woke up experiencing pain, and was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with some type of cancer on the spot. I could constantly see the pain in his eyes, despite the dorky ear to ear smile he always had on his face.
"Hey Keith, how's the family doing?" Instantly, I saw the tears start to form in his eyes, and I regret asking him.
"She was rushed to the hospital last night. They're thinking she isn't going to make it. Whatever happens, I know she'll always be looking down on me from heaven. Just gotta pray, yaknow what I mean?" That dorky smile formed on his face. I felt my heart breaking inside my chest.
"Sorry man. You know, I'm always only a phone call away." I spoke, quickly.
"Thanks Dalton. I appreciate it."
We got back to work, taking orders and making tacos. We worked really well together.
Just as I was finishing up for the evening, I looked up, and I felt my chest get tight and my palms start to sweat. There she was, standing before me. Her hair fell perfectly from her head, and her hazel eyes glistened.
"Hi, welcome to Taco Bell, how can I help you?" I smiled, and waited for a response.
"I, uh, I'll take two hard shell beef tacos, with meat, cheese and sour cream." Her voice went right through me. It was mesmerizing.
"Is that all today?"
"Yeah. That's it." After she spoke, her head always tilted down, to look at her feet.
"That's $5.42."
She handed me the money, and I handed her the food and her change.
As she walked away, I couldn't help but stare. I tried speaking up, but I guess you can say a cat got my tongue. I got extremely choked up, but I knew it was now or never.
"Excuse me, miss." She turned around and looked at me.
"You, uh, you can call me Skye." Skye. What a beautiful name for such a beautiful girl.
"I'm Dalton. I just stopped you because I wanted to let you know that you are breathtakingly beautiful, Skye. Sometimes, girls don't hear it enough, and you deserve to know." I smiled.
"Thank you..." She let her words trail off, as she turned around and walked away.
The evening came to an end, and my shift was over. I grabbed a burrito, and rushed out.
I hopped in my car and sped home. When I reached the house, I rushed upstairs to see Graham peacefully sleeping on the couch. I positioned myself next to him, turned on the television, and ate my burrito. Before I knew it, I was in a deep sleep.
