A year went by since then...and nothing has changed.

I had hope that they would leave me be after that argument, but I was wrong. What did I expect

Their continuous demands of wanting grandchildren was driving me insane.

They don't understand the discomfort I feel when thinking about relationships. It only leads to anger and unhappiness which is harbored inside for the rest of your life.

In addition, having a child. I fear it.

What if, hypothetically, I did end up having a child?

What would happen?

What if I became like my parents?

No! The thought of that happening makes me feel sick.

Bringing a child into the world to suffer...no.

I don't want history repeating itself.

Thinking about this only makes it seem like I am considering it.

Forget about it.

I don't want to be more miserable than what I already am...and I don't want to give in to their demands.

I never will.

December 24th...

I held my pen firmly in my hand, flipping through many different documents stacked and laid out atop my desk. This project is so tedious, but at least it's almost complete. I just need a few other portions from my team.

I looked at the time in the corner of my computer: 7:45pm. Hopefully I'll be able to submit this by tonight.

I heard a knock on the door.

"Come in."

I placed the documents and pen down, then looked up at the door, watching the door open. My assistant entered and approached my desk. When she stood in front of me, I could see her slightly shift around. Is she nervous?

"Is something wrong?"

She held her hands together, her fingers fidgeting. "W-well, Ms. Y/N...the team members and I wanted to know if we can go home early today."

I scooted closer to my desk, placing my elbows atop it. I held my hands together, intertwining my fingers and kept my gaze on her.

"What for?"

She looked at me surprised, then averted her gaze and answered, "Ma'am...it's Christmas Eve."

"And what of it?"

She met my gaze again, looking at me in surprise.

"What does that have to do with getting this project done?"

"Well...most of us are going to celebrate with our families," she answered softly.

Family.
