"Hey Kate, how are you?" I spoke whilst putting my phone on speaker so I could finish cleaning my baking mess. 

"I'm fine. I was just calling to ask if I could come over." She replied in a shaky voice, which worried me. 

"Of course. Is everything okay Kate? Something wrong?" I put down the pans I was holding so I could give her my full attention. Her voice worried me. 

"I'll be there in a few minutes. We'll talk then." Kate said before ending the call.

True to her words, I heard a knock on the door a few minutes later. As soon as I opened the door, she came forward and hugged me. I could tell she'd been crying. After a couple of seconds, she let go and went towards the living room. I closed the door and followed her, getting even more worried.

"Kate, what's wrong? You're worrying me." I said as I sat next to her on the sofa. I placed my hand on her shoulder as she looked straight at a wall in silence. Finally, she spoke. 

"I'm pregnant." 

"What? That's great Kate...Isn't it?" I exclaimed in a shocked voice but I couldn't be excited when I saw the state she was in. Kate placed her head between her knees as she breathed in. 

"And Jake's cheating on me," her voice broke as she let out what's made her this upset. She sniffed and looked up, showcasing her teary and red eyes. 

I couldn't speak. I stared back at her. There is no way this was happening. I saw Kate, in the state she was, heartbroken and pregnant with my brother's child. Jake was my twin brother. I introduced them to each other. I put Kate in this position. 

I couldn't even speak. I just sat there in shock and sadness and so much freaking disappointment. 

"W-what...Kate...I'm so sorry. I-I-I don't know what to say. I'm just so sorry..." I couldn't help but stutter because I just didn't know how to react. 

"It's not your fault Ella. You don't need to apologise," As she said this, she let out a sob. I pulled her in for a hug and held her tight. 

"I just...I don't know what to do Ella. What the hell do I do? I love him. For god's sake, I'm pregnant." Kate said as she cried into my shoulder, making her words almost inaudible. Her voice broke my heart. I was lost for words and just had no idea what to say. 

"How did you find out?" I finally asked cautiously, almost scared of the answer she would give me. 

"Someone sent me photos...of him having sex with another woman. It was timestamped for two weeks ago. They were in a hotel room." She reached into her bag, pulled out an envelope and placed it in between us on the sofa. I looked at it, wanting to decide whether I wanted to see them. Nevertheless, I cautiously reached for it, opened the envelope and took out the photos. I saw the first photo and couldn't look any further. 

"What the f*ck. I need to talk to him. I need to know what is so wrong with him that he could do this to you." I was angry. I didn't really believe it until I saw it. Or maybe I didn't want to believe it. How could Jake do that to her? He wasn't like that. He was in love with Kate. He adored her. 

"No. Don't. I want to talk to him. And please don't tell Hayden. You and I know that he would do something stupid." Kate pleaded. I gave her an uncertain look. 

"Kate. Hayden would never forgive me for not telling him." I said to her but she shook her head. 

"Hayden can't control himself. Ella, you know that. I can't have him hurt Jake and I know you don't want that either." She spoke the truth. Hayden loves Kate too much to not do anything. I finally nodded and she left but not before telling me she loved me.
