CHAPTER |2|

ONSET

: a new beginning

VARNESH POV

Coimbatore was the Manchester of southern India. People were racing to their workplaces, children to their schools, and college students to their institutions of higher learning.

Even though the city was bustling, birds flew high in the sky to observe all that was going on. This city was stunning in every way.

"Varnesh, if you don't show up this time, I'm not talking to you again. " "Amma, don't worry, I'll be there," I said as I picked up my watch and fiddled with it on my hand.

"Okay, good. But you need to get there before the festival day", she said.

"But mom, I have du-" She interrupted me and growled, "It's not up for discussion; either come here before a day Or don't talk to me.

"All right, cool off, dear. I'll be there. Say hello to father , Arjun , Pallavi and take care. I hung up the phone when she said, "Bye Amma," "Of course da, bye take care."

I nodded to myself as I looked in the mirror after getting dressed completely in my uniform. I headed to the police department.

I'm ACP Varnesh Shivakumar with the Coimbatore Police.

Everyone greeted me with a "Sir" as I arrived at the station. I went inside my cabin and began to peruse the cases that had been submitted.

My phone rang before I could look through the files. I picked up to discover DSP beckoning, so I picked up.

"Varnesh"he said, and I echoed "yes sir."

"It's encouraging to learn that the drug matter has been resolved"He spoke. I gave a "yes, sir" in response.

"congratulations on the case. I phoned you because I have fantastic news to share with you"he added. I inquired about the "good news" with him, wanting to know more.

"Well, you have been appointed on a fresh case for a special undercover operation." He responded.

"Undercover operation sir." I asked him

"Yes varnesh, this case needs a special attention and the department has approved to appoint you as the head of the operation. Also, you have been transferred to Chennai . You may remain the ACP but also work on the operation" he informs me. I reply with a yes sir and thank you sir.

"And varnesh meet me and IGP when you reach Chennai and also you can choose your team in Chennai or your team in which you have worked" he informs me.

"Sir , I would like to choose my team here rather than new people" I inform him. "It's fine varnesh , I will send their transfer orders as well. Varnesh this undercover must be as secret as possible" he tells me.

"Yes sir" I reply and hang the call.

So, this is a brand-new situation. After taking a deep breath, I leave my cabin and go tell my staff about the new covert mission and their relocation to Chennai.

In our regular conference room, I put them together. I say, "Good morning, guys."

Only Adithya and Rashmi respond to the "Good morning, sir" greeting. I come across  Jeeva and Vishal arguing once more in a low voice. Adithya and Rashmi are chuckling as they both glance at the two.

Despite being older, these two still think like young children. I yell out " Jeeva and Vishal."

They say "S-sir" and stare at me in disbelief. I couldn't help but shake my head at their actions.

I then let them know about their transfer order and covert mission.

We were all prepared to move to Chennai once the required arrangements and agreements had been made.

I'm not sure what it is, but something about it makes me feel as like I'm missing something.

This emotion, I hope, is positive.
