"Kenshin, what are you making?" Megumi asks.

"Just a stir-fry." I say cutting ginger.

"Is it done yet? I'm starving." Enishi says.

"Be patient." I say.

"Ughh." Enishi whines.

I let out a breath. I put the ginger in a pot with green beans and other vegetables. I stir it around. Kaoru brings me the pork. I take it and smile. I put it into the pot. I continue stirring. Megumi was tending to the rice. She was stirring it. Enishi was just sitting there. He's supposed to be getting water from the well, but whatever.

"It smells really good, Kenshin." Megumi says.

"Thanks." I say.

"It better taste good, I'm starving." Enishi says.

"If you're starving anything will taste good." Megumi teases.

I roll my eyes. Oh brother. I add a little salt and other spices. This meal is kind of a bad reminder of my childhood. I had no parents. I had no person to go to. The person who adopted me had more than fifty boys doing his dirty work. We were often treated like street rats. We were beat and abused. Long story short, we often cooked this meal. We would often sing and cook. I replay their words in my head. I remember hearing their screams. I remember growing up while being beat. I was also trained to kill by that dick. I remember being whipped.

"Is it ready?" Enishi asks again.

He breaks my thoughts. I turn and I nod.

"Let's eat." I say.
