"Did we have to get up this early?" Megumi grumbled as Satoru made the household get a move on. Satoru was no stranger to missing sleep, so he could be energized at any hour.
The kids, however, were not used to this. You woke them up gently but it was Satoru's annoying yelling that got them up.
You lifted up Megumi and took him to the bathroom. Satoru splashed water in his face to further wake him up. He picked up Tsumiki gently, helping her brush her teeth and all.
Megumi had mumbled about Satoru having a clear favourite. Both Tsumiki and Satoru stuck their tongues out at Megumi.
"We need to get a spot," Satoru said.
"Can't we just teleport?" Tsumiki asked, stifling a yawn.
Satoru shook his head. "We're getting there fair and square. I call shotgun!"
"Satoru, you have to drive," you reminded him.
You had unfortunately not obtained your drivers licence yet, due to the fact that the Zenin's forbid you from doing so. Partly because you were a woman and partly because you weren't a 'mere assistant.'
Satoru could drive, he just chose to torture Ijichi.
"Nope, Ijichi is."
"You woke him up for this?"
Satoru shrugged. "He was awake already."
"You're gonna make the poor kid age badly," you huffed, packing a bag with snacks and drinks for the ride there. You reached out for your wallet to take out some money as well, but Satoru placed a hand over yours, not letting you take anything out.
"I'm not evil, I've got that covered."
You raised a brow at him. "Did you pay enough ?"
Satoru thought about it for a moment, before taking money out of your wallet.
"I thought so."
The trip was... something, to say the least.
By the time everyone had sat in the car, the kids were fully awake. Tsumiki talked excitedly, and for once, when you and Satoru didn't want him to, Megumi chimed in often. As people who lacked sleep, you and Satoru could sleep on cue, wherever you were. A moving car was the ideal place to sleep as well, the usual comfortable movement of Ijichi's car often put you both to sleep after missions.
Today, that couldn't happen.
You'd sat in the front, much to Satoru's dismay, but since this was his plan, you argued that he should sit in the back. Even if there was no leg room for his long, lanky legs.
Every time you were about to close your eyes, something interrupted you - Tsumiki's voice went up two octaves, the GPS, Ijichi's yelping whenever Satoru suddenly kicked his seat - you could not sleep in these conditions.
But it was worth it.
It was worth it to see Tsumiki's entire face light up in wonder. It was worth it to see Megumi's eyes brighten - he wasn't as expressive as Tsumiki but the eyes are the window to the soul after all. It was worth it to see Megumi's Divine Dogs run around, barking loudly in the open space. And it was definitely worth it to see Satoru's accomplished, soft smile, as he looked at the children.
"Good job," you whispered to him, nudging his shoulder.
Satoru kissed your forehead before wrapping an arm around your shoulder, holding you closer. "This would be a great place for a date without the kids. Or Ijichi."

Fanfiction"You're late," Shoko pointed out, pointedly. You sat down, bowing your head at her boyfriend, and smiling apologetically. "Sorry, traffic," you lied. "Yeah, sure," Shoko huffed, eyeing the buttons of Satoru's shirt. Sure, he usually had a few button...
