The graduation ceremony was pleasant.
It wasn't as painstakingly quiet as the one that had occured the year before.
The absence of Haibara was obvious but both you and Nanami acknowledged it.
Before the ceremony, you both had gone to visit Haibara's memorial stone. Yaga had placed his certificate by the grave earlier in the morning, which you were thankful for. After saying your prayers, you sat by him for a bit longer.
"We wish you were here," you muttered.
Nanami nodded. "More than anything."
There wasn't much else to say.
You stood up and smiled as Nanami placed down the picture he'd printed out - the one that you were all meant to recreate. Holding his camera out, the two of you posed by Haibara's stone, grinning. Nanami actually smiled in this one, and yours was less forced.
After he'd taken the picture, you frowned. "Was that disrespectful of us?"
"Yu would love this," Nanami rebutted. You hummed in agreement, taking one last look at the grave before walking away. Nanami looked down at the urn, filled with Haibara's ashes. Reaching into his bag, he took out a bottle of coke, placing it over the corner of the photo so it wouldn't fly away when it got windy.
"Congratulations on your graduation, Yu."
Tsumiki and Megumi knew that you had lost a friend, and kept their clapping at a minimum when both you and Nanami accepted your certificates. Once you got off of the stage, they both ran up to you and gave you a hug.
Nanami smiled at you. "Congratulations on your graduation, Y/N."
"Congratulations, Kento," you grinned back.
Shoko smiled as she came over. "We're really proud of you both."
Ijichi agreed. "You've been fantastic senpais."
Satoru pulled you by the hands, leaning forwards to kiss your lips. You smiled widely as you parted but the smile was quickly wiped from your face when you heard someone.
"Well, look what we have here." Everyone's head whipped around at the voice of your eldest brother; Naoji. Accompanied by your younger brother, Naoya. The worst duo you could think of.
"No, no, no," you muttered under your breath, letting go of Satoru's hand. "Why are they here?"
You looked up at Yaga, who seemed horrified as well, shaking his head as he walked over. "Hello Naoji, and Naoya, I believe? It's a pleasure to meet you. I was told that neither of you could make it"-
"As much as we love formalities," Naoya interrupted, smirking as he crossed his arms. "We have more pressing familial matters at the moment." He looked over at you. "When did you become a Gojo whore, huh?"
Tsumiki gasped at his words and covered Megumi's ears. He swatted her hands off, mumbling something about not being much younger than her, while glaring at Naoya. He'd met the man before, with Tsumiki and when Satoru took him to the Zenin estate to discuss adoption matters.
Satoru and Nanami took protective stances in front of you, while Shoko took your hand, pulling you behind her. Ijichi panicked and pulled the kids back as well, putting a hand on each of their shoulders.
Naoya walked up, trying to get in Satoru's face. He grit his teeth, as he realized that Satoru had grown much taller - the top of Naoya's head probably reached Satoru's nose, at the most. Satoru glared down at him, sunglasses disregarded at this point.
"Wanna talk shit again, Naoya? I'd watch my words if I were you."
"Aren't you intimidating?" Naoya mocked.
Naoji came in between them, pulling Naoya back. "There's no reason to fight. We're just interested in our sisters' behaviour."
Satoru raised a brow. "Does that not involve me?"
"It very well may, however," Naoji looked over at you, making you shiver. "We'll keep this between siblings, for now."
Naoya glared at his brother now. "What do you mean by that? A Zenin of high status is whoring herself out for a Gojo! We should drag her with us and take her to the disciplinary pit right now! She's done with school now, there's no reason for her to stay here with these people anymore."
"We're not letting her go!" Tsumiki yelled.
Both Zenin men looked down at the little girl. Ijichi was shaking, and tightened his grip on Tsumiki. "Tsumiki, I think we should stay off to the side"-
Tsumiki glared up at Naoya. The man she never liked.
"Y/N is staying with us. We're her family, not you."
Naoya let out a sarcastic laugh, and Naoji continued to stare at her. Tsumiki glared back. Shaking his head, Naoji turned around. "We'll call on you soon, sister. We expect your arrival to the estate."
Naoya rolled his eyes. "Useless man, never taking charge." He glared up at you. "You're going to"-
Satoru covered his view of you, moving in front of him. "You're not going to talk to her while I'm around. Go follow your useless brother."
Naoya seethed, his face turning red. "How dare you"-
"Just go!" You called out, Shoko holding you back from going in between them. "It's not worth fighting here." You sighed. "I'll come home when you call."
Everyone turned to you, shock written all over their face. Before anyone could protest, Naoya smiled, smug, before turning away. At least you got him out of the way. Satoru walked over to you. "You're not really thinking of going, are you?"
"They're right, for once," you huffed. "It's a family matter."
"But"-
"My family will not come in the way of the family I've chosen. It's my responsibility to make sure they don't, and I'll make sure they never will. I swear."
