Kiara and Maya sat on the balcony of their apartment, enjoying morning tea and catching up on the week's events.
As Maya sipped her ginger tea, she turned to Kiara and asked, "Hey Kiara, any exciting plans for Saturday ?" Maya, always the adventurous one, was eager to make plans for the upcoming weekend. They had been roommates for past one year and despite their differences, they had become good friends over time. they loved spending time together, especially in their cozy little balcony overlooking the bustling city.
Kiara, who was engrossed in her laptop, looked up with a sheepish smile and replied, hoping Maya would drop the subject., "Um, you know, the usual. I have some office work to finish up, so I'll probably be stuck at home."
But Maya wasn't one to give up easily. She knew Kiara needed a little push to step out of her comfort zone. "Again? Come on, Kiara, it's the weekend! You need a break from all that work. It's been a while. Let's go out and have some fun!"
Kiara sighed, knowing exactly where this conversation was going. She tried to come up with a believable excuse. She wasn't comfortable in crowded places and preferred the solace of her room" I wish I could, Maya, but I also have a ton of house chores to take care of. The laundry is piling up, and the dishes need washing. It's never-ending."
Maya raised an eyebrow suspiciously. She knew Kiara too well to believe her excuses. "Come on, Kiara! You've been using that excuse for weeks now. I can't believe you'd rather clean than have some fun. and what are you plans for Saturday night? I bet you're just planning to watching your favorite movie 10 things I hate about you for the 50th time , aren't you? "
" you're definitely exaggerating. The movie count is way less than that, Maya. It's not even close to 50 times. Maybe 30 at most!" Kiara chuckled, knowing Maya was exaggerating.
"Oh really? I find that hard to believe. I swear, you must know every dialogue by heart. So it feels like you've watched it a million times. How do you even manage to watch anymore?" Maya said teasingly
"Okay, fine. Maybe I do watch it a little too often. It's just that this one holds a special place in my heart."
Maya laughed, knowing she had hit a nerve. "See, I told you! You're practically obsessed with it."
Kiara shrugged, unable to deny Maya's accusation. "Okay, maybe I am a little obsessed. Besides, it's like comfort food for my soul. Whenever I'm feeling down or stressed, watching it instantly lifts my spirits"
"Fair enough. We all have those guilty pleasures. But seriously, Kiara, you need to broaden your horizons a bit. There are so many amazing things out there waiting to be discovered. you really need to come out of your comfort zone. Now tell me honestly, what's the real plan?"
Kiara looked down at her cup, stirring the hot liquid absentmindedly. "I don't feel like going out this weekend, Maya. I just want to stay home and relax." Maya raised an eyebrow, a hint of disappointment flashing in her eyes. Kiara sighed and confessed, "Alright, fine! I was actually planning to binge-watch a new Korean drama over the weekend. But that's not as exciting as your plans, I'm sure."
Maya burst into laughter, unable to contain her amusement. "Kiara, you're unbelievable! But I have something that might change your mind. What if I told you I have a surprise for you?"
Kiara's eyes widened with curiosity. "A surprise? What kind of surprise?"
A mischievous smile spread across Maya's face as she thought about the surprise. She knew that Kiara's love for music was unmatched, and this concert would be a dream come true for her. Maya couldn't wait to see the look on Kiara's face when she found out. "I managed to get tickets for your favorite band's concert tonight! They're playing all their greatest hits, and it's going to be amazing!"
Kiara's jaw dropped in disbelief. "No way! You're joking, right?"
Maya shook her head, waving two tickets in the air. "Nope, no jokes here! I knew you were making excuses to stay in, so I thought this would be the perfect way to get you out of the house."
Kiara's eyes widened in disbelief. "No way! I still can't believe it. How did you even manage to get those tickets? They were sold out everywhere!"
Maya shrugged casually. "Oh, you know, I have my sources. I pulled a few strings and voila! Two tickets magically appeared."
Kiara couldn't contain her excitement. "Maya, you're the best! I can't believe we're actually going to see Abeer perform live! This is going to be epic!"
Maya smirked playfully. "Well, it would've been more epic if you hadn't made up all those excuses about being busy on Saturday. But don't worry, I have someone else in mind to accompany me."
Kiara's face fell. "Wait, you're not serious, are you? Maya, please, I'll cancel all my plans! I don't want to miss this opportunity!"
Maya laughed, enjoying her friend's desperation. "Relax, Kiara. I was just teasing you. Of course, I want you to come with me. Who else would appreciate Abeer's music as much as you do? and who knows, maybe we'll even get to meet Abeer backstage"
Kiara let out a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness! I thought I was going to miss out on the concert of a lifetime. You know how long I have waited for this concert?"
Maya nodded. "I know, that's why I got these tickets for you. I wanted to surprise you and make your Saturday extra special. But here's the catch, Kiara. I need a promise from you."
"What kind of promise?" Kiara's excitement turned into confusion.
"Oh, it's nothing major" Maya leaned back, enjoying the suspense. "I can't tell you just yet. You have to trust me."
Kiara's curiosity piqued even further. "Maya, you know I trust you, but I can't promise something without knowing what it is."
"I understand your hesitation, Kiara, but I need you to trust me on this. I promise it'll be something exciting. But I can't tell you what it is until after the concert. Do we have a deal?"
Kiara hesitated for a moment, her mind racing with curiosity and excitement. Finally, she nodded and said, "Okay, You've got a deal. I trust you, Maya. I promise to do whatever it is you want me to do. But you better not make me regret this!"
Maya beamed, feeling a surge of joy. "That's all I needed to hear. I promise you won't regret it"
And just like that, Maya had successfully convinced Kiara to abandon her movie marathon for an unforgettable night of live music.
