Kiara's pov

I stepped into the brightly lit room, a flurry of activity surrounding me as Maya and Sakshi fussed over my appearance. The air was thick with excitement and the sweet scent of flowers. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, barely recognizing the woman staring back at me in a stunning red lehenga.

"Hold still, Kiara!" Maya chided gently, adjusting a pin in my elaborately braided hair. "We want you to look perfect for your big day."

I smiled, feeling a rush of gratitude for my friend. "Thank you, Maya, for helping me with all the wedding preparations. I don't know what I would do without you."

"Come on, we're like sisters," Maya said, giving me a playful nudge. "And I want everything to be perfect for your big day."

Sakshi stepped back, admiring her handiwork on my makeup. "You look absolutely breathtaking, Kiara. Kabir won't know what hit him."

I felt a blush creep up my cheeks, my heart racing at the thought of Kabir waiting for me at the mandap. "Do you really think so?"

"Are you kidding?" Maya exclaimed. "This red color is perfect on you. Kabir's jaw will hit the floor when he sees you during varmala."

"Hopefully not hard enough to break it," Sakshi joked. "Wouldn't want to send the groom to the hospital on his wedding day!"

We all burst into laughter, the tension in the room dissipating.

"Speaking of the groom," Sakshi said, her eyes twinkling with mischief, "I peeked in on Kabir earlier. He's just as nervous as you are, Kiara. I've never seen him fidget so much!"

My heart fluttered at the mention of Kabir. "Really? I can hardly believe it. He always seems so composed at work."

Sakshi chuckled. "Well, this isn't exactly a team meeting, is it? I bet he's counting down the minutes until he can see you."

I caught Maya's eye in the mirror, and saw a flicker of something - perhaps a hint of sadness? - cross her face. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by a warm smile.

"I can't believe this day is finally here," I said softly. "After everything we've been through..."

Maya squeezed my shoulder. "You and Kabir were meant to be, Kiara. It just took you both a while to figure it out."

I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat. "I'm so grateful to have you both here with me. And Maya, I can't thank your parents enough for agreeing to do the kanyadaan."

When I learned that Maya's parents had agreed to perform the ceremony and give me away in kanyadaan, as my own parents would have done, I had wept with bittersweet joy.

Maya's eyes glistened with unshed tears. "They love you like a daughter, Kiara. It's their honor to give you away."

I felt tears prick at my eyes, overwhelmed by my friend's generosity of spirit. "You're amazing, you know that?"

"Oh, I know," Maya said with a wink, lightening the mood. "Now, let's not ruin all our hard work with tears. You've got a groom to dazzle!"

There was a knock at the door, and Sakshi went to answer it. She returned a moment later, grinning. "It's time, ladies. The groom is waiting."

My heart leaped into my throat. This was it. The moment I had dreamed of for so long was finally here.

As we made our way to the mandap, I couldn't help but reflect on the journey that had brought me to this point. The misunderstandings, the heartache, the moments of joy - they had all led me here, to Kabir.
