The guy smirked and replied, "Its been a while, Kitty"

My heart skipped a beat as I recognized him. I took a closer look at him, and it all clicked. The same mischievous grin, the twinkle in his eyes. It was Kabir, no doubt about it. How could I not have recognized him earlier? The years had changed him, but the essence of who he was remained the same. It had been more than decade since we last saw each other, and I had hoped to keep it that way.

It was Kabir, not Dev. Only he  used to call me Kitty instead of Kiara. Memories of our past flooded my mind, reminding the hurtful words he once uttered, words that cut through my heart like a thousand knives. He said things that shattered my self-esteem, leaving behind scars that still ache to this day.

"What are you doing here, Kabir? Why would you pretend to be Dev? " I demanded, my voice filled with anger and confusion.

"Is this the way you greet your childhood friend who met you after a long time?" he asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

"We are not friends anymore. I guess we never were," I replied, my voice laced with bitterness. "I can't believe I have to endure this. I thought I had left you and your arrogance behind in school".

Kabir and I had a complicated history, filled with unresolved conflicts and bitter memories. Our friendship had disintegrated long ago, and we had both moved on, or so I thought. The sight of him reignited a fire of resentment within me, and I couldn't help but wonder why fate had brought us together once again.

"yeah right," Kabir's gaze hardened. " friends don't abandon each other when they need them the most, like you did"

"Look, who is talking. I am Selfish? Coming from you, Mr. "I'm always right"? You never cared about anyone but yourself. You're too busy living in your own little world to notice anyone else's struggles."

"And you're too busy playing the victim all the time" With a bitter laugh, Kabir leaned closer to Kiara, his eyes filled with contempt. " Coming here for a blind date, Kitty? How desperate have you become?"

Kiara's face flushed with anger. "At least I'm trying to find happiness, unlike you, who seems content with a life filled with bitterness and resentment," she shot back.

Kabir mocked me with a smug expression on his face. "always so fiery. Can't a guy have a little fun?"

I was taken aback by Kabir's admission. clenched my fists, trying to control my rising anger. "Fun? Is that what you call it? Playing mind games with people? I thought we were done with each other, Kabir. Why are you doing this?"

He leaned back in his chair, his eyes never leaving mine. "Oh, Kitty, you always had a flair for the dramatic. But trust me, this isn't a game. I recognized you the moment you walked in. I just thought it would be amusing to see how you would react."

I felt a mix of emotions swirling inside me—anger, confusion, and even a hint of curiosity. Despite everything, there was still a part of me that wanted to know what Kabir was up to. But I couldn't let him see that.

How could he discard our friendship as if it were a meaningless trinket? The hurt runs deep, and I struggle to understand how someone I once held so dear could treat me with such indifference.

Without thinking, I stood up abruptly, knocking my chair over. "Well, congratulations, Kabir. You've succeeded in getting a reaction out of me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do than entertain your stupid games." I spat.

Angry at myself and the situation, I walked away from Kabir, leaving him sitting alone in the café. I quickly texted Dev, asking to meet at a different place, somewhere far away from the memories and mistakes of my past.
