I was awakened by a ray of sunshine hitting my face. I stretched and sat on the bed, rubbing my eyes. I looked at the time on the phone and it was already 9:30. Fuck. What a sleep! My dad had been at work for a while, and he wouldn't be home till 6:00 pm. I was home alone. No school this week, so I was gonna get some rest from that mess.
After I washed and dressed in a pair of baggy jeans and a big blue and white striped shirt, I had breakfast. I didn't know what to do to pass the time, but I had a good idea. I decided to go to the new neighboru to chat. I put my phone in my pocket and opened the door. There was something on the floor. It was a piece of paper. I picked it up, looked around and unfolded it. I almost fainted when I read: "I'll be your torment".
I left the note on the table and rushed out, with the feeling of being watched. I arrived immediately and rang the doorbell.
«Who is it?»
«I am Heeseung»
«Ahhh come in»
I went in, I walked through the garden and he welcomed me into the house smiling. He made me sit on the sofa and brought something to drink, sitting next to me.
«You did well to come Heeseung, my parents work all day and now that the school has been suspended for a week I'm bored at home alone»
«I have to be alone too. But how do you know me?»
«Sometimes Sunghoon comes here to me to vent or talk a little and he told me everything»
«Fuck but then Sunghoon is really able to speak decently?»
He laughed as if he had just heard the funniest thing. And I have to admit that his laugh was contagious, so I laughed with him.
«He tries very hard to do it»
We had tears in our eyes with laughter.
«Come on now let's try to be serious. I forgot to tell you that my name is Kim Sunoo, I attend the same school as yours but I have a year less than you»
«I thought I had already seen you, it's nice to be in your company Sunoo, I was very pleased to meet you»
«Give me your number Heeseung»
«Of course!»
We exchanged phone numbers and told each other our lives.
«Sunoo, can I stay here with you until my father returns tonight?»
«Obviously Heeseung-hyung! Indeed, you should come to visit more often»
I smiled grateful, he was really kind and helpful.
«However this morning a strange thing happened to me»
«Tell me everything, let's sit in the kitchen while we wait for the pizzas to arrive»
«First of all last night there was a boy a bit shady in the street where I live. Then this morning, as I went out, I found a note under the door saying 'I will be your torment' and walking down the road to come here I felt that someone was watching me»
«Oh my God, that sounds scary! Who could it be?»
«Sunoo, do you know anything about Niki?»
«Oh yes, Niki is a dear friend with which I fell in love and, believe me, I am more than sure he is too, but-»
«You can't tell each other»
«Exactly»
«Does Niki usually behave well?»
«Yeah, but lately he avoids me and rarely replies to my messages. Why?»
«Just between us, I suspect he killed Jean. After all, there were only the two of them in my class during the break and that same morning they almost beat each other to death»
«I don't think he can do that. He must have beaten him because last week, during a party, Jean had taken me aside and molested me. When Niki found out he was furious»
«That's horrific!» I held Sunoo's hands to give him some comfort and I saw one tear fall.
«Well, I was used to it. When it was time for Jean to empty his balls, he considered me as his perfect object, and maybe Niki will be mad at me for never telling him»
«You should have, instead»
«I know, but I didn't have the courage to say it»
«Jean, that bastard, did horrible things to the students. Only who killed him is even worse than him»
«Actually, Niki is not bad, unlike Jake»
«And who is Jake?»
«He's your stepbrother's ex, from Australia. Ever since Jake's parents were murdered and Sunghoon broke up with him, all he does is isolate himself and behave differently. I've heard that sometimes he take drugs or drinks, he beats up the ones he can't stand and so on»
«Do you know where he lives?»
«Sunghoon told me he lived in a shabby building five blocks from here»
Suddenly the bell rang.
«The pizzas must have arrived, wait for me to pick them up» I nodded and he got up going towards the door. He opened it but there was no one outside. A shiver ran down my spine. Sunoo was about to close it when the delivery man showed up and handed him the two boxes. I sighed of relief.
«Hyung this is for you» he handed out my pizza, I thanked him and we ate. What Sunoo told me about Jake was very upsetting. There might have been a chance he wrote the note and followed me last night.
«Sunoo, could you tell me more about Sunghoon?»
«I thought you would ask me this question»
He told me about Sunghoon's habits and what he liked, which really helped me get a better idea of who would soon become part of my life.
