Metin waited until they got home before bombarding her daughter with questions. He was angry and needed some time to calm down so he could think clearly. But being able to calm down about Can Divit was never an easy feat.
Melike was waiting for them at the door. She never liked to see her husband so upset, but if it had anything to do with Can Divit she knew he would livid. " Alara, sweetie, why did you not tell us you were coming home for the weekend?" Melike cried, wrapping her arms around her tightly.
Metin stomped in, tossing his jacket on the table, " Ok, now young lady, I want to know what in the hell is going on. Why....why, did you not tell us you were dating this Divit guy. Why did you let me walk into a situation like that. Do you just enjoy seeing me embarrassed and humiliated." He shouted.
Alara could feel the tears come to the surface as her dad lashed out at her. " Dad I had no idea that the Divits were someone you knew. I never even knew his dads name. All I know is that I am in love with Tarkan Divit, no matter who his father is. That will not change." She fumed, as she stood firm against her dad.
Melike stepped in, " Metin, you will calm down. Alara, you will speak with respect to your dad. And both of you will tell me what's going on." She said, stepping in between them. Alara burst into tears, " Mom, dad was awful. He barged in like a bull, pointing his finger at Tarkan. And Mr. Divit ask for him to come in a talk, but oh no, dad had to grab me by the arm a pull me to the car....like I was a ten year old." She sobbed,
Metin looked away, refusing to face the judgmental look from his wife. " Ok, but you haven't told us what's going on Alara. You know your father, he always reacts to every situation as if he were right." Her mom said, as she stroked her daughters hair.
" Ok, I'll tell you. I have been seeing Tarkan for a while now. It's serious mom, he is the most wonderful man. I'm in love with him." Alara announced, pouring out her feelings to them. " All I want is for you both to understand, and you dad, I want you to tell me why you dislike Mr. Divit so much." She asked, her eyes searching for an answer.
Metin wasn't sure if he wanted to get into the story of his life as Can Divits buddy and wingman, at least not tonight. " I think we need to all get some sleep, then we can talk about this nonsense tomorrow. And just for the record, Tarkan Divit is far from being a man." He smirked, as he hurried away downtown the hallway.
Melike watched her daughter fall apart, as she sat with her until the wee hours of the morning, consoling and soothing her. She had been through this type of hurt before. Her own parents had been as unwelcoming of the relationship with Metin. But she hadn't let any of that get in her way....not when it came to Metin.
Can had escaped to the garden, Sanem knew to let him be for a while. He would have to come to terms with this on his own. Tarkan had shut himself up in his old room, after giving them that final and direct ultimatum. And all Sanem could do was to help her husband remember why he had once considered Metin and Akif his only family.
A thousand memories were parading around in his head as he sat there. All the good times that had happened, not so much the bad. The bad only came after they all grew up and became adults. He needed to talk to Akif, but it was late. He was the only person other than Sanem that could understand how he felt.
It was as if he had been subconsciously calling out to her, when she walked up behind him there sitting on the grass. "Hey, is it alright if I sit with you." She spoke softly, running her fingers through his hair.
He smiled, " I was just wondering when you were going to come out here and help me make sense of all this." Sanem sat down next to him, grasping on to his arm. " So you need my help? Since when Can Divit , did you need anyone to tell you what to do. I can and will be happy to point out some obvious facts to you, but never could I tell you what to feel and how to feel it." She told him.
" Can you know the right thing to do. You have known for a very long time that's it is time for you and Metin to put your differences aside. It's all water under the bridge, as they say." She spoke, her words covering him like a soft blanket of calmness.
" Am I right? You even told me that when the two of you started to work together again. Forgiveness Can, that's all it takes. You and Metin were so much more to each other than just friends, he was your brother, your family." She continued, pointing out what he already knew in his heart.
" I know you're right, but I still think about what he tried to do to us. How he tried to ruin us. That's the thing that bothers me the most." His voice cracking..
Sanem shook her head, " Metin never loved me Can and you know that. He was jealous of you, of your strength, of knowing what you wanted and going after it. Don't let this come between you two anymore."
Can leaned over, letting her cradle him in hers arms. She was right, she was always right. But would Metin see it the same way. " So I should make the first move. I need to open that door of forgiveness?"
Before Sanem could answer Tarkan appeared behind them. " Dad, I don't know why you need to forgive Mr. Aksoy, I don't know what kind of relationship you had in the past, but to be honest I really don't care. I only care about Alara, I love her, and I intend to marry her." He spoke, with determination.
Can stood quickly, "Tarkan I don't think marriage should be in this conversation. You have just brought this girl home for the first time, and now you are laying down the ground rules of what is going to happen.... I'm not so sure about that son." He replied.
The only thing running through his mind right now, was how Metin was going to respond to all of this. " Look Tark, it might seem simple to you. You like this girl, you don't want us telling you what to do, I get that. But it's different for a girl. She's young, you're both still young, and things might change. Just be careful....Her parents may not see if the same way that you do."
Tarkan stiffened, " Then we will do it on our own. If you won't support us....then we will support ourselves..... I promised to love her, no matter what..
Can felt those words pierce his heart... He knew that feeling all to well....He had lived it....and was still living it...
" Dad I know the story of you and mom....your pride, the women, all the problems that other people made for you and mom. And I don't want it to be like that with Alara and me.....
"Our love is worth fighting for..... and I don't intend to lose.....
