Warning for steamy stuff because yes

-

Shadow peeked through the front door of his apartment building, making sure nobody was around to see him enter. When the coast was confirmed clear, he turned around to the large werehog that was sitting behind him, wagging his tail happily. He was panting with a smile.

Shadow had forgotten his Chaos Emerald at Sonic's place earlier that day, and once he realized, the two were already halfway across the city and he really didn't feel like making his way all the way back.

"Alright, Sonic, no pets or animals of any sort are allowed in the building, so I need you to be quiet until we get up to my apartment. Can you do that for me?" Sonic dropped from his sitting position into a low crouch, his ears and quills flattening to make himself look as small as possible. His emerald eyes stared up at Shadow, passing the silent message that he understood.

"Good boy. Let's go," Shadow gestured for Sonic to follow, the creature keeping light on his massive paws as he tailed Shadow towards the elevators. His claws faintly clicked against the floor. He noticed Shadow getting a little far ahead and trotted to keep up, the marble flooring thankfully making it so his steps were practically soundless.

"Shh, keep it down, I'll be in trouble if they find out I brought you in here," the ebony hedgehog whispered. Sonic lowered himself to the floor again, keeping in a hunter's crouch as the elevator's doors slid open.

It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but they managed, and Shadow hit the top button, sending the elevator to the penthouse suite. Sonic was sniffing Shadow's legs from where he was crouching, occasionally licking them. Shadow growled and gently kicked him off. They made it to the top floor and Sonic happily padded out after Shadow, his tail swaying rhythmically behind him. The agent unlocked the door to his penthouse and ushered Sonic inside, quickly closing it and making sure it was locked again.

"We made it. Good job, Sonic," Shadow praised and rubbed the burly animal's cheek with his hand. Sonic purred in delight, pushing his face into Shadow's palm to soak up all the affection he could.

Both of their ears perked up when Shadow's phone began to buzz, his eyes rolling as he took the device from his quills and held it to his ear. Sonic sat behind him, resting his pale blue muzzle upon Shadow's right shoulder while the agent spoke into the phone.

"Evening, Commander," Shadow greeted flatly, trying his best to ignore the adorable purrs that vibrated within Sonic's chest. "Shadow. Do you have a plan for Sonic yet?" Of course it was about that. Never 'How are you doing, Shadow? I hope you had a wonderful day! Why don't you take the week off and relax?' Nope. "Yes, I have a plan," he growled. Sonic growled in return.

"What was that sound, Agent Shadow?"
"I have Sonic here with me. He's a bit of a territorial bastard in this form, but nothing I can't handle." Sonic began to sniff his hand, his wet nose pressing against the white glove and inhibitor ring. Shadow muttered a small "get off me" and returned to his call with the Commander.

"As for the plan, I'll need troops with tranqs at the small pond clearing in the woods, right near the field. You know which one I'm talking about?" he asked his boss. Tower hummed. "Yes, I believe so. I'll send them out for when?"
"Tomorrow, late morning, early afternoon. I'll have him." Sonic was wagging his tail happily behind Shadow, not understanding a word of the conversation; but his mate's voice was bringing him much joy.

"I trust you, Shadow. Rest well." The Commander hung up and Shadow stuffed his phone back into his quills. "Alright. Dinner. Let's make you something that you won't regurgitate when you wake up, yeah?" Shadow clapped his hands together and wandered to the kitchen, Sonic trotting along happily behind him.
