Disturbing/gory subjects ahead (Also heavily inspired by my au/made in abyss)

Thursday rolled around quicker than Tails had expected. The cure for Dark Gaia was done, but he needed to find Rouge or Shadow so that they could give it to him. But Rouge wasn't authorized near Sonic and Shadow hadn't been picking up. He had considered going to find Sonic himself, but that would be way too risky. He would need to find Shadow on his own to tell him the news.

"Shadow, pack a bag, we have a quick mission to take care of. It shouldn't be too long, maybe a day or two," Rouge explained while passing her dark partner the letter they had received from the Commander while he leaned against the kitchen counter for support. She knew it was a false alarm just to keep Shadow away from HQ, but she couldn't help but feel guilty about this. She felt like she needed to tell Shadow of what they were planning to do to Sonic.

"A mission? Now? But I promised Sonic I'd join him for his training course. And my leg is fucking broken," Shadow grumbled and crumpled the letter up, tossing it into the bin beside his counter. "Well it's not my choice. Either we go or the Commander punishes both of us. You know how he is." Shadow growled, his ears flicking irritably. "Sonic is currently my top priority. What if they hurt him!?"

Rouge's eyes averted themselves at what Shadow had said. Shadow caught sight of this.

"Rouge?"

She remained silent.

"Are they going to hurt him?" Shadow snarled, shooting a menacing glare at the female. Once more, his ears were met with a shrieking silence. His red eyes narrowed. "Rouge!" He finally shouted. Rouge closed her eyes and returned the shout, "I'm sorry! It was the Commander! He said he'd hurt me!" Tears were streaming down her cheeks, staining them a grayish color with her dark eyeliner. "I wanted to tell you, Shadow! I really did!"

The ebony growled and grabbed his crutches, preparing to make the trip to head quarters as he reached for the Emerald in his quills. "Please don't tell them I told you!" his friend sobbed, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. Shadow just grunted and raised the Emerald, a bright light swallowing him.

Sonic awoke with a start, his eyes opening, but nothing coming into his vision. He breathed deeply. His arms tried to shift in order to remove whatever was covering his eyes, but his wrists had been locked tightly to the arms of a chair. His legs were spread open and restricted to the bottom. It seemed to have a block for a base rather than four legs. The hedgehog, who was now beginning to hyperventilate, tugged at his restraints.

He could feel the metal of his eye-covering resting over the bridge of his nose, curling up around the sides of his face and bridging beneath his ears — like ski goggles that were made out of steel and had been covered with a dark cloth so the user wouldn't be able to see.

Something had been placed over his crotch. His sheath had been clipped open, and his flaccid genitals hung loosely out of it, held inside what felt to be some kind of cup that narrowed into a plastic tube. His body was trembling with fear. What was happening?

A deep voice bit into the silence, followed by several others, all speaking the same words. "The Subject wakes." They sounded strange. Their voices were slightly distorted. Sonic tried to move his arms again. "Wh-where am I?" He stuttered out, the inability to see greatly disturbing him. His ears twitched about in every direction, trying to gain some sense of the situation he was in.

Everything was so foggy in his mind. He didn't understand. Had he done something wrong? Was this a punishment?

"Beginning research. Pain toleration and bone examination." There were some clinking sounds, like tools being sifted through. Sonic's fists clenched tight. Pain toleration? What does- Before he could finish that thought, searing agony tore through his shoulder as a buzzing sound started up and a small buzzsaw was placed against his flesh, tearing through it to reveal the bone.
