In 2 days, this will all be over.
And on all 3 days, we have school. It's a shame. 3 days that could be spent relaxing are reserved for schooling. Academics are important, but there are limits.
There is a benefit, though.
And that's why I asked to see Chabashira in the staff room.
"Ayanokouji, why the meeting?" she asked.
I didn't tell her what it would be about.
It's a simple request, in reality.
"On the third day, the last day we have school, I would like it if you would do something for me. If you could, please set up a sort of grading system."
I know that this may not matter to anyone but me, so she's not exactly inclined to agree, but I get the feeling she'd follow.
"A grading system?"
Of course, she was puzzled at my request.
Chabashira crossed her legs and let out a weary sigh, "You know, this is quite short notice."
"Hmm, I don't think it should be difficult to create it. It doesn't even have to be technological, a simple paper grading system would only take a mere 10 minutes," I countered.
She cocked her head to the side, "Well, let's get to that bridge later. What would you be grading?"
"Whether you want this person to remain in your class. If I were to put it as a title, it would be something along the lines of 'Would you like to keep this person in your class? Judge not only on ability, but how they are as a person, their existence within the class, your own personal connection with them, and their overall presence in the school'," I explained.
Not even 50 words. It should be simple.
"And each student would have to grade the other 38, huh? However, I assume you expect to get the results. Anonymity is a key factor that you must have taken into account, correct?" Chabashira asked with a speculative gaze.
I nodded.
"What I expect to happen is that it's a yes or no question. There is no option to abstain. Each student will get a summary of the 38 choices they recieved, none of the names are given, of course, only the choice itseld. Mask it under the guise of a 'performance report' companies at times give their workers."
"That's not how it tends to work, you know."
"The real world is horribly detached from this school, it's never been a problem before, why now?"
Chabashira crossed her arms, "Getting this done school wide is a bit annoying to deal with. I have to bring up the idea, get it approved, and then have it roll out to each teacher. It just can't be done in 3 days, the rules don't allow it."
What a weak defence.
"And since when did the rules matter to you?"
Her eyes looked slightly taken aback for a moment.
"Do it without the school's permission, you have 20 minutes of homeroom time, after all. It should be simple enough. It'll only be 30 minutes to create the document and print it for every student as well."
At the end of the day, this won't come back to bite her at all. That day is the last one, and everything will be reset. All of this is purely out of my curiosity.
And because of its pointlessness, she'll act.
"You have nothing to lose," I informed.
She stayed silent for a moment, looking around the room aimlessly pondering, and then she locked eyes with me once again.
