CHAPTER SIX
Evolution

After meeting Fury, he wasn't as harsh towards Rose as everyone, including Rose, thought he'd be. Night cast upon the farm, and the Avengers + Clint's family + Rose + Fury were all in the kitchen discussing Ultron.

"Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself time. My contacts all say he's building something. The amount of vibranium he made off with, I don't think it's just one thing." Fury told them.

"I don't know what he's building exactly. I just know he doesn't really want any form of humans to exist." Rose explained.

"What about Ultron himself?" Steve asked, leaning against the doorway that connected the kitchen to the living room.

"Oh, he's easy to track. He's everywhere. The guy is multiplying faster than a Catholic rabbit. It still doesn't help us get an angle on any of his plans, though. And are you completely sure there's nothing else you know?" Fury turned to Rose, who was leaning against the wall.

"Nothing. I always zone out because his voice is extremely annoying, like Mr. Red, White, and Blue over there." Rose answered.

Tony snickered at the nickname for Steve as he continued throwing darts at the target. "Is he still going after launch codes?" He asked.

"Yes, he is. But he's not making any headway." Fury said, somewhat distracted.

"I cracked the Pentagon's firewall in high school on a dare." Tony stated.

"Well, I contacted our friends at the Nexus about that." Fury responded.

Steve looked up, "Nexus?"

"It's the world Internet hub in Oslo. Every byte of data flows through there. Fastest access on Earth." Bruce explained to Steve.

"So, what did they say?" Clint asked as he fiddled with the dart.

"He's fixated on the missiles. But the codes are constantly being changed." Fury answered.

"By whom?" Tony asked while the dart Clint threw flew right past him and on the center of the dart board.

"Parties unknown." Fury asked, finally looking up.

"Do we have an ally?" Natasha wondered.

"Other than Rose... Ultron's got an enemy. That's not the same thing." Fury said.

"Still, I'd pay folding money to know who it is. I might need to visit Oslo. Find our unknown." Tony said aloud.

"Well, this is good times, boss, but I was kind of hoping when I saw you, you'd have more than that." Natasha sighed.

"I do. I have you. Back in the day, I had eyes everywhere. Ears, everywhere else. You kids had all the tech you could dream up. Here we all are, back on Earth, with nothing but our wit and our will to save the world. Ultron says the Avengers are the only thing between him and his mission. And whether or not he admits it, his mission is global destruction. All this, laid in a grave. So stand. Outwit the platinum bastard." Fury explained, sitting down.

"Steve doesn't like that kind of talk." Natasha looked at Steve.

"You know what, Romanoff?" Steve quipped, causing a smirk to spread across Natasha's lips.

"So, what does he want?" Fury wondered.

"To become better. Better than us. He keeps building bodies." Steve stated.

"Person bodies. The human form is inefficient. Biologically speaking, we're outmoded. But he keeps coming back to it." Tony said.

Rose watched as Bruce looked over Natasha's shoulder to look at a piece of artwork that Lila did. "When you two programmed him to protect the human race, you amazingly failed." Natasha looked at Tony.

"They don't need to be protected. They need to evolve. Ultron's going to evolve." Bruce realised.

"How?" Fury questioned.

"Has anyone been in contact with Helen Cho?" Bruce wondered.

Rose let out a deep breath. She knew what was coming and she didn't like it. She started to walk out of the house when Laura caught up to her when she was outside. "Hey, listen... if you ever need a place to stay, our place is always open, okay?" Laura offered with a warm smile.

"You're inviting someone who hurt Natasha, your close friend, to stay when needed?" Rose questioned.

Laura smiled. "I'm honestly impressed that anyone could hurt Nat physically. And so is she."

Rose looked down and smiled at the ground. "I might take you up on that offer at some point."

Rose knows Pietro is gonna die-
