"Caitlyn I want to show you something. You're now old enough." my mother had said after a minute of silence. I looked at her.
"Show me what?" I asked respectively. I never liked surprises, but if I had the chance to see one that my parents had, which is once in a blue moon, I was always curious what it was. I had gotten up and followed mom to her and dad's room.
"Um, Mom…?" I asked hesitantly, as my instincts were heightened. I knew my sisters and I weren’t allowed in here but once in our lives. Both Kylee and Morgan had been in here. Was what they had been shown, about to be shown to me?
"Relax, breathe." Mother said as she opened the closet door. I walked over to her and she motioned me to look in so I did. ' A ninja suit' I thought.
"Mom!"
"It's yours. You are of age and your sister has arranged for you a teacher. Do him honor-for he is highly respected in the tower." she stated and even went as far as to smile! Even though I was excited I grabbed my head, which suddenly felt clouded…hazy even.
"Thanks Mom... I, uh, I'm getting a headache right now though, I think I'm gonna go to bed now ok?" I said with a smile. She nodded so I left, holding my head with one hand and the new suit in the other.

“Young one, you are not focusing.” Master Tomoyo said, tapping my side gently with a stick and causing me to wobble. I’m forced out of the memory of last night, which is still unclear to me, to regain balance desperately. I didn’t want to disappoint Kylee’s teammate, even though he knows I am untrained.
“But I am Tomoyo-sama” I begin. “It’s just a little hard to balance on gigantic sticks that are four feet off the ground. My balance is fine, but not to the extent of Kylee’s skills.” I wobble more, throwing my arms backwards and forwards. Ever since last night, I’ve felt slightly different; stronger, yet confused, and this sense of belonging is amazing but new and strange.
I caught a light hearted smirk on my sensei’s face, and for a moment I’m too worried to notice his exquisite Japanese features that make him look like a god in my opinion. “Oh, do you wish to start at your older sister’s level? I’m sure we could find her thinner and higher sticks for you.” He laughs when he sees my expression. I shake my head to such an extent I throw myself off balance again. “Do you wish to rest little one?” Master Tomoyo asks. I like him very much. Tomoyo is kind and caring. He’s been a great teacher for the half of the day I’ve been learning from him. I’ve already taken so many breaks from either resting my tired legs or falling incorrectly on my ankle. I don’t want to have to take another. Tomoyo-sama says I shouldn’t worry so much, since I’m just a beginner. But I want to push myself like Kylee does.
“No!” I say fiercely. “I wanna train. As you said, Master, I just need to concentrate better.” I wobble here and there, standing on one leg while trying to get to another bamboo peg. ‘Breath in and breath out…’ I try to tell myself. In all honesty, heights freak me out…I’m fine on a rollercoaster-but that’s when I’m securely strapped into something, instead of on unstable sticks.
“Caitlyn,” Tomoyo-sama says, stepping forward. “It is not only about clarity of mind-but trust in your body.” He places his hands on the leg I’m standing on. They’re not cold like you would think, but soft and warm. Though the tips of his fingers were calloused from playing his stringy thing (I forget what he calls it), his hands are strong and constructive. “You shake, because you are afraid to fall. But if you have trust in yourself (and also work on leg strength more often) you are more likely to stand and walk on as if the bamboo were but mere pavement.” Tomoyo must be really smart too-that makes a lot of sense.
