I glance at her hands which is rested on her lap. I bit my lips and slowly reach over, gently grabbing her hand and move it to rest on my lap. I smile softly as she still asleep. I will savor this moment for as long as I live, because Y/N is precious to me.

Y/N P.O.V

I slowly wake up from my short nap, only to realize that my surroundings are moving. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. Only then I realize I'm actually riding on someone's back. A soft, yet manly scent enters my nostril. I pull away and realize that it's Sanemi-San.

"Erm... why are you carrying me instead of waking me up, Sanemi-San?" I asked. He turn his head to look at me. I pat his shoulder, wanting him to place me down. But he just turn his gaze forward. "Put me down, please" I said.

"Why? Do you hate being on my back that bad?" He said. My eyes widened at what he said. I feel his shoulders vibrated as he laughs. He turn his head to look at me. "I'm just kidding, Y/N..." he said. He gently lowers me down until my feet touches the ground. He stand straight and stare at me with a gentle smile. "You just look so peaceful that I don't have the heart to wake you up" he said.

"Oh..." I said. I turn my head away from him for a few seconds before turning to look at him again. I turn my head to look back and notice the tree we were resting under isn't on sight. Which means we must've gotten far, and Sanemi is carrying me the whole time.

"But you could've got tired carrying me the whole time. You told me yourself... we need to be in our best shape by the time we reach the village. Since we don't know what we're up against" I said.

"Hmm. I don't mind. You barely weight anything. You're as light as a feather" he said. I feel my cheeks growing warm at what he said. I turn my gaze away from him.

Sanemi have been nothing but a gentleman towards me. He did try his best to show me that he truly loves me. But deep within my heart, I'm still scared. I'm scared that if I let myself fall in love again... I would only ended up with a broken heart.

Our lives as a Demon Slayers ain't easy, and we live in a situation where death could come anytime. It could be me who's next or Sanemi. Either way, one of us would be left heartbroken if the other one is to lose their life. Just like how I'm heartbroken when Kyoujuro died a few months back and I'm still not over his death. Which makes me scared. I don't to go through that pain again if I do give Sanemi a chance to have my heart.

"Hey..." a voice said, snapping me out of my daze. I turn my head to look at Sanemi, to see him staring at me with a worried gaze. "Are you okay? You spaced out" he said. I blink my eyes at what he said.

"Uh.. y-yeah. I'm fine..." I said. He just stares at me as if trying to detect any lies. I gently pat his shoulder. "Really. I'm okay..." I said, giving him a soft reassuring smile. He let out a sigh and nod his head.

"Alright. If you say so. But if there's something bothering you... or if you just need anything, you can talk to me, okay? I'm always here for you, Y/N..." he said. He lift his hand, gently cupping the side of my cheek. I just smile at his words and nods my head.

"Thank you, Sanemi-San..." I said. He smiles softly and lower his hand, grabbing my hand instead. He starts to pull me along, signaling that we should get going. I didn't even realize we had stopped walking all together because of me. I feel bad because we're slowing us down.

I stare at his hand which is holding mine. I didn't make a move to pull away because I don't want to offend him. But if I let him hold it, he's going to be hopeful and I don't want to disappoint him if I failed at falling for him. I don't know what I should do at this point.

Sanemi-San is still holding my hand firmly by the time the village is within our sights. My eyes widened at the state the village is in. Everything is in shamble. Broken buildings are everywhere and I don't see any sign of living here.

"Sanemi-San... t-this is" I said, my voice cracking as I stare at the village in sadness. If only we'd gotten here sooner, we could've prevent this chaos from happening. I feel a gentle squeeze on my hand. I turn my head to look at him. He turn his head to look at me.

"I know what's going on in your head. It's not your fault, Y/N... so don't blame yourself. Even though we're both demon slayers. We're still humans. We can't expect to help everyone. We can only try our best" he said. I stare at him in surprise. How did he know what is going on inside my head?

"Yeah..." I said, lowering my gaze to the ground. I lift my head to look forward. "Let's go and look for any survivor. I hope there are people who still managed to stay alive" I said. He nods his head.

I suggested that we split up, but he said we shouldn't because we don't know what kind of demon is around. Especially since there have been rumors that the demon here might be one of the Twelve Kizuki. He said he's more worried about my safety than his. I don't have the energy to argue at this point because I just want to focus on helping any people who might survive this attack.

We start running around the village, hoping there'd be some people who managed to stay alive. The whole time, I keep on chanting a silent prayer in my head. Praying to God that there is survivors along these broken buildings. Please, God... let there be someone.
