- Jake -

Everything was happening so fast.

One minute I was about to go to class like normal, but now I'm in a fancy-looking car seated between Heeseung and Niki and driving to god knows where because I'm in danger.

I feel like I'm not as scared as I should be. Maybe it's because I'm with Heeseung? I haven't known him for long, but I feel safer when he's around.

I should be scared of him. He's a vampire. But somehow I'm not.

Suddenly, I felt a hand gently grab mine.

I look over and see Heeseung looking at me with comforting eyes.

Maybe that's why I'm not scared. I know they wont hurt me.

After a long 3 hour drive, we made it to a more... secluded area?

"Uh, where are we?" I ask.

"Technically New Hampshire." Heeseung says.

"Oh, that's pretty far..."

After another 30 minutes of driving through a wooded area, I finally spotted a big house ahead of us.

Well, it wasn't big, but like a beach house?

"Is that where we're staying?" I ask.

"Mhm, it's my dad's beach house." Heeseung says.

Sunghoon parks his car in the garage of the beach house, which was bigger than I thought.

"Sunghoon, show Sunoo where you guys' room is." Heeseung says, grabbing my suitcase.

"Where's my room? Do I get to choose?" Niki asks.

"I'll show you."

I followed Heeseung into the house, shocked by how nice the inside looked.

It was a lot bigger than it looked from the outside.

We go upstairs into what looks like a second living room. There was one door that I assumed to be one of the rooms.

Instead of going to that one, we walk down this big hallway toward another door.

Heeseung opens it, letting us all in. This was definitely the master bedroom.

Big closet, big bathroom, big bed, a small couch, even a balcony.

"Ooo this is my room!" Niki says, walking further into the room.

"Um, no. This is our room. Jake, stay here, let me take Niki to his room." Heeseung says.

"Okay."

Wait. Our room? Am I sharing a room with Heeseung?...

I walk over and sit on the edge of the bed, looking around the room.

The balcony had a clear view of the ocean, it was really nice.

Soon, Heeseung came back into the room, shutting the door behind him.

He sits down on the bed next to me. "We're gonna be here for a while, so make yourself comfortable." He says.

"Uh, okay."

"The bed is yours. I'll take the couch since I don't sleep anyway."

"What? No, we can share the bed. It's big enough for like three people."

"It's fine. I'll be downstairs, I need to talk to everyone about something, but it won't take long. Stay here." He says.

I nod, watching as he leaves the room, closing the door behind him again.

I get up and walk over to the balcony, opening the sliding door and stepping out into the windy air.

Looking out at the sea made me realize I might never get to see it again.

If Soobin, and whoever else is coming gets to me, I'll never get to see anything ever again.

My parents, my dog, my old friends, no one.

They'll kill me.

I felt a tear run down my cheek.

Okay... now I'm scared.

Just then, I heard Heeseung quickly come back into the room.

I turn around and see him walking toward me with a worried look on his face.

He wraps his arm around me and walks me back over to the bed.

"I won't let them kill you, Jake. You're safest with me." He says.

"Wait, how do you know that's why I'm crying?..." I ask.

Heeseung sighs, tapping his temples.

"Oh my god, can you read minds?!"

"Yeah, it's kinda annoying sometimes."

Wait... so if he can read minds... does that mean he's heard all of the things I've thought about him?...

"Yep, everything." He says.

"Oh."

"Mhm, now please stop crying. I won't let anything happen to you."

"Okay..." I say. "Remember what you said before we left your house? You never fully explained what's going on."

"Oh, right."

"I want to know everything."

"Everything?"

"Everything."

Heeseung sighs. "Okay, it's a long story. Are you ready for this? It'll explain everything. Their reaction to you mentioning Canada, why these guys are even after us in the first place, all of it."

"Yes."
