- Heeseung -

I lay next to Jake on our bed, watching him as he lay peacefully, not moving a muscle.

I bandaged his wound in hopes of it giving him a better chance of coming back.

His skin was almost paper white, and his lips had lost their rosy pink color.

He didn't look like the boy I fell for.

For the first time in hundreds of years... I cried.

I promised Jake I'd protect him, and that I wouldn't let them hurt him, but I failed him.

I couldn't save him, and now I have to live with that for the rest of my life.

Suddenly, there was a knock on my door, then it opened, revealing Niki.

"Heeseung?"

"Go away." I say.

"Heeseung, you can't stay like this." He says.

"Yes I can, and I'm going to until he wakes up."

Niki sighs, sitting on the corner of the bed. " I don't think he will..."

"No, he has to. I injected him with venom, so it has to work."

"Hee..."

"I promised him Niki... I promised him I'd keep him safe..."

"I know, and you did everything you could... It's not your fault." Niki says. "Are you gonna come downstairs? We need to eat soon."

"Mm... I'll be fine." I say. "I don't want to leave Jake."

"Okay..."

Niki gets up from the bed, heading toward the door.

I gently grabbed Jake's cold hand, looking back at his pale face.

He was still beautiful, even in his lifeless state.

I felt another small yes troll down my cheek.

Maybe Nikis right.

Maybe he won't wake up.

I ran my thumb over Jake's soft hand, caressing his hand.

Just then, the moment I had been waiting for happened.

Jake's hand weakly squeezed mine.

"Jake?! Oh my god!" I say, sitting up from my lying position.

I watched as Jake's eyes slowly started to open, and his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

Soon enough, Niki, Sunoo, and Sunghoon came busting through the door, startled by my yelling.

"What happened?!" Sunghoon asks.

"Oh my god... Jake!" Niki exclaims.

Jake opened his mouth to speak, but then his hand quickly lifted and touched his throat.

"Oh, uh, water! Niki, can you get him water?" I ask.

"Yeah." Niki says, disappearing downstairs to the kitchen.

Within seconds, Niki was back with a glass of water.

I took the cup, helping Jake lean up and giving him the water.

Jake took a long drink, handing Niki back the cup before speaking.

"W-what happened?..."

"Uh... I think it's best if I don't tell you yet. What's important right now is that you're awake." I say, glancing over at the others.

"Oh, okay..."

"Wait, if you're back then that means the venom worked, right?" Niki asks.

"Venom? What venom?" Jake asks, looking at me confused.

"So... I had to bite you to bring you back to life."

"Wait, I died?! Oh my god..."

"Jake, we'll talk about that later, but yes."

"Oh my gosh, am I a vampire now?" He asks.

"I mean, you should be." Sunoo says.

"I wonder why it took so long for it to work..." Niki says.

"Maybe it's because he was actually dead, unlike you and Sunoo." Sunghoon says.

"So I really did die... Wait, what about Yeonjun and the others?" Jake asks.

"They're gone, so you don't have to worry about them anymore." I say.

"Are they all dead?"

"Mhm."

"Wait! Since Jake's a vampire now, what ability does he have?" Niki asks.

"Oh my god! I forgot about that!" Jake exclaims, getting up from the bed.

"Woah woah woah, be careful. You literally just came back to life." I say.

"I feel fine Heeseung. Other than this small stabbing pain in my back, I feel great."

I side-eye the others, seeing them already looking at me.

"Do you think I can like...fly or something? Oh! what if I can light stuff on fire like Sunoo?"

"Actually Jake, but takes a while for you to actually fully develop into a vampire, so you're not gonna have any abilities just yet..." I say.

"Aww, what? That sucks..."

"I know."

"Well, what did I miss? You guys look terrible." Jake laughs.

"Who wants to explain it? Cause I'm not." I say.

"Oh, can I? It was pretty cool to watch, other than... you know." Sunoo asks.

I nod, sitting back down on the bed.

Jake sits down next to me, grabbing my hand as he listens to Sunoo retell the whole encounter.

I guess I didn't fail him after all.
