Chapter Twenty: Your Final Choice

Ky was immediately rushed to the emergency room with an oxygen mask on when he arrived at the hospital. He was completely unconscious at the time due to how much blood he had lost at the crime scene.

Mavis and Jax were not allowed in the operation room as the nurses barricaded their way and shut the doors behind them, one by one.

"The doctor is trying his best, please be patient." a nurse tells them before rushing into the dark room.

Mavis and Jax were pacing back and forth outside the room with their nerves dancing on the edge. What the fuck was happening?

"This can't be happening... Why Ky?" Mavis says angrily as she paces around the room. Her anxiety was skyrocketing and she couldn't calm herself down.

"You're injured too, don't overexert yourself like that..." Jax tells her, as she indeed, was injured and covered in bandages too.

"Ky's in the ICU! How can I not panic?" Mavis asks him with an angry look. Jax understood how she felt because he was afraid for Ky's safety as well but they were in an utterly useless position right now.

"He's gonna make it. He always does." Jax says as he puts a hand on Mavis's shoulder to comfort her. They both wait outside the room for hours and soon the light above the door that was initially red turns green.

Mavis and Jax stood up immediately and rushed to the doctor who had just walked out.

"How is he, doctor? Is he okay?" Mavis asks the doctor who takes off his mask.

"Are you his family?" the doctor asks them before he discloses any information.

"Ky has no connection to his family. This is his girlfriend and I'm his best friend and colleague." Jax explains quickly.

The doctor looks down with disappointment in his eyes and Mavis feels her stomach twist into a knot. 

"Say something!" she impatiently yells.

"He's stable now but he hasn't woken up," the doctor explains.

"What do you mean he hasn't woken up?" Mavis asks in an angry tone.

"He's in a coma. We won't know when he'll wake up. It could take days, weeks, months, or even years. Worse comes to worst, I need you both to be strong and prepare yourselves for the worst if none of these become an option..." The doctor delivers the bad news to them.

The doctor indicated that there was a chance that Ky would never wake up again from his coma and Mavis felt her world shatter into pieces in front of her. She was dumbfounded and froze in place.

"Nonsense! He'll wake up soon. He will. Ky won't leave us." Jax says as he refuses to accept it.

Mavis looked at the doctor who was just as lost as they were and knew that this was the best that he could do.

"Thank you, doctor..." Mavis says as the doctor takes his leave with the nurses.

Mavis and Jax both stare at each other in despair as Jax hits his head softly against the wall in frustration after hearing the news. Ky was soon placed in a ward, and they both rushed over to visit him under the hospital's strict instructions to keep the volume down.

Mavis walks in slowly and sees Ky lying there unconscious on the hospital bed while his body is attached to many wires that are hooked up to multiple machines. Her heart slowly breaking to see him like that. She slowly pulls up a chair and sits beside him as Jax leans on the side of his bed frame.

She cups her small palm against his face and tears start to form in her eyes again.

"Ky, if you can hear me. I need you to wake up. Please. Don't do this to me." she says as her tears begin to fall.
