The elevator arrived and Ky walked in. "Are you coming or not?" Ky's stern voice called out and a cold gaze fell upon Jax. Jax quickly rushed into the elevator after him as Mavis watched the doors close.

Mavis didn't know how to react. Was Ky mad at her? Was he having a bad morning? He seemed fine when it was just him walking in with Jax. Maybe she should try again at lunchtime. Despite her efforts to ignore the situation that had happened, she could barely focus on her work and was struggling to complete her tasks to the point where Amelia became concerned for her.

"Mavis, you look a little pale today. Are you alright? Do you need to take a break and eat something at the pantry?" Amelia asked her caringly.

"No, Ms Amelia. I'm alright, I am, really." Mavis said with a fake smile.

Amelia constantly checked in on Mavis multiple times but Mavis denied having anything wrong with her each time so Amelia couldn't help but give up since she couldn't get through to Mavis.

Lunch hour soon arrived and Mavis kept the bag with Ky's coat close to her on her table as she kept peeking over the cupboards in front of the department windows to see if Ky was leaving the building. She checked her watch which showed 1:15 pm, the usual hour that Ky leaves for lunch with Jax unless they ordered in or had a business appointment with a client. After waiting for a while with no sign of the duo, Mavis left for lunch alone but brought along the paper bag just in case she would run into him. As she stepped out of the department doors, she heard the main elevator arrive.

"Personally I think an optimization of data would be the most ideal in this case; difficult to execute but if done correctly, it would produce the best results." Mavis heard Ky explaining to Jax as they walked out of the elevator. Her smile widened from ear to ear when she saw him.

"I think we can do it if we get help from the general operations team. That way we'll finish it quicker with time to spare for final checks as well." Jax replied as they were approaching Mavis.

The moment Ky made eye contact with Mavis, his expression changed and he started walking faster away from Jax and quickly disappeared into the pantry.

"What the fuck just happened? We weren't done discussing..." Jax muttered under his breath. He glanced around the room and caught sight of a very disappointed-looking Mavis standing beside the receptionist's table while holding a paper bag.

"And that's probably why..." Jax sighed.

"Mavis!" he called out as he sped-walked his way to her.

"H-hey, Jax," Mavis replied with a broken tone in her voice.

"Have you gone out for lunch? Why are you standing here alone?" Jax asked concernly.

"N-n-no, I haven't actually... I was hoping- you know, never mind..." she stammered quietly as she clutched the paper bag tighter and tighter. Mavis felt pained and for some reason, she felt as though she wanted to cry but she refused to in front of Jax.

Jax wasn't a completely clueless person either. He knew that she was waiting for Ky and he absolutely despised seeing them like this. However, there was a thought that weighed heavy on his heart; something he couldn't quite understand. Why would Mavis show so much concern for Ky when she acted so sweet around Ezra as well? What was she trying to accomplish with both the guys? It felt and looked like such a jerk move.

Jax was about to reply to Mavis when he heard someone rushing out of the pantry and they both turned to see Ky speed walking towards the elevator with Mr Hale as Mr Alex Wilson, head of the security department, dashed out of it before Ky stepped in.

"Mr Grayson, there you are. It's an emergency. Security caught a data breach on YOUR computer. We need you upstairs now, Mr Elias is on his way up now as we speak." Mr Wilson spoke quickly.
