When we arrived at the store, we went around together, picking out snacks and drinks and planning meals for the week. I let Iris push the shopping cart, but only because I couldn't say no to her adorable, purple puppy dog eyes.

Iris made me get a shit load of popcorn, telling me we were having movie nights, plural. I had never really been one to relax in front of a movie, my mind always being too restless to focus on it.

However, I did love Moonraker, the 1979 James Bond film. It just kind of brought me comfort in a way. It was the only movie I ever really watched, so of course, I knew all the words.

I obviously also picked up some peanut butter, because I just love it, but Iris giggled at how much I bought.

I don't think she understands, you can have it with so much stuff! In a sandwich, with apples, on ice cream! I scoffed at her, leaving her to laugh to herself whilst I looked for the fruits.

"Ugh, I'm bored of the healthy foods." she complained, playing around with an orange in her hands.

"Well, go find something you want then." I said, slightly annoyed by her childish attention span.

"Ok!" she said simply, scurrying off.

"Meet me right back here in 20!" I called after her. I still felt such a strong need to protect her and to be honest, just her leaving my side, worried me. I knew she was a full grown adult and could definitely look after herself, but I didn't trust anyone.

After finishing with the food, I went to grab some shower supplies as the ones I'd taken from the hotel were only small travel sized ones. As I was walking through the isles, picking up everything we would need, I stopped at one section in particular.

The period section.

I wanted to get some things for Iris so that if she did get her period, she'd have something to use and not have to panic.

However, I had no idea what to buy. I hadn't had a period since I was 16, so had basically no knowledge of brands, or types. It didn't help that there were so many either.

In the end, I just asked a friendly lady who worked at the store. I pretended I couldn't speak Italian, so couldn't read the labels, but in reality I just had no clue about it all.

She was very helpful and pointed me to the best tampons and pads, as I wasn't sure what Iris would prefer, getting a few different absorbencies just in case.

I hid them at the bottom of the cart, not wanting her to see them in case she got embarrassed.

When I met back up with her, she seemed to have an armful of stuff to buy. I chuckled as she struggled to carry it all, and observed the things she'd chosen.

"I got us both some bikinis for the pool! I hope you like them." she said excitedly.

"Yeah they're cute!" I replied, matching her energy so as not to dishearten her. In reality, I was sort of nervous to go into the water again, knowing what happened last time, but if Iris wanted me to do it with her, I would. I owed her everything.

"What's that?" I asked, pointing to a cute pink fuzzy-looking thing.

"Oh its a cozy for our coffee pot! Now you can have coffee in the morning, and if i'm not awake, it'll stay warm and you won't have to feel bad." she explained, making my heart skip a beat.

She's so sweet. She doesn't want me to feel bad.

She was such an amazing girl, always thinking about others. I wished I could be more like her, so understanding and sympathetic. I wished I could think of others more.
