Sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating a very distressed Theo pacing in his office. Strange things had been happening to him all the time over the last few months, but today, it was just ridiculous. If it hadn't been clear enough, he had not been working out; He was still as skinny and fragile as he was three months ago. But... the table.
Cura had said that the table was wooden with a bit of steel in the middle. What if... what if the part of the table he broke was missing that bit of steel between the planks. Yes, of course, it was perfect! But the wood, though. How had he broken the wood? He ruminated on this for a minute. Ah, of course! It was probably made out of really, really old rotting wood. Maybe, in whatever dimension this may be, they could only find rotting wood, because all of the trees were long dead. It all made perfect sense now!
Who was he kidding? Maybe the table was just already broken. NOW it made perfect sense.
He decided to sit back down at his desk and write something. It was a good stress-reliever, and right now, he was very stressed. He opened his leather-bound journal and picked up a pencil.
Today was very interesting. What was interesting about it? Well, for starters, The Project was supposed to be revealed today. Spoiler alert: it was very uneventful. Cura said that she only knew the test subject's name. That's it. Everything. But, weirdly enough, more things have started to happen. for example
The door banged open, and Theo slammed his journal closed. Lovebug, as expected, stood in the doorway.
"Drone! I have an idea!"
Oh no.
OH NO.
Lovebug had had an idea.
He closed the door and sauntered over to Theo's desk, which he sat on, swinging his legs like a ten-year-old. Theo shoved his journal into a drawer.
"So you're like, best friends with the CEO, right?"
"We met each other once."
"Oh, potato, po-tah-to. Whatever. Well, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if we just went into his office for a bit, rummaged through his file cabinet a bit."
"Are you insane? He'd fire us on the spot!"
"But don't we have the right to this information? For all we know, we could be helping the CEO commit genocide or something."
Unfortunately, Lovebug had a point. There must've been a reason why the CEO wasn't telling them the whole story.
"Alright. Fine. We can try and sneak in. Let's go get Cura."
"Uhhhhhh... about that...," Lovebug smiled sheepishly. Theo groaned.
"We're doing this without her? She's the only one who can get us in there."
"We have to! She's already told us about Stanley, now her job's already enough at risk. She'd totally tell the CEO."
"She'll see us anyways. She's the secretary!"
"She and the CEO are both at a conference in another dimension until 5:00, so all we have to worry about are Scar and MI6!"
"Wait. Are we doing this NOW!?"
"Well, duh!" Lovebug looked at Theo like he was supposed to have already known that. "Now's the only time we can possibly go! So, come on!"
Reluctantly, Theo grabbed his jacket and the two of them walked out into the cold, cloudy, fall afternoon weather in the dome.
