I'M BACK BABY!
'Rally! Rally to the Athena Parthenos!' Percy yelled, thrusting Riptide into a
Hyperborean giant.
Camp Half-Blood lay in ruins, its strawberry fields on fire, the cabins being thrown down by Laistrygonians, and the Big House in tatters. The arrayed demigods, Greek and Roman both, stood at the base of the statue, their splendor, and valor nothing but a speck in the vast sea of monsters that surrounded them.
'Archers, eiaculare flammas!'
Waves of flaming arrows sliced through the advancing monsters. Yet the fallen were replaced by even more.
'Shield wall!'
The demigods locked shields at the command, spear tips bristling over the metal wall as hordes of monsters threw themselves onto the blockade, showering them with golden dust. For a while, they held strong, but they were very easily overpowered.
Myrmekes spat acid, burning through the celestial bronze; the screams of demigods mixed with the stench of sulfur, drakons crushed the First and Second Cohorts, empousai sowed chaos, and Kampe herself came forth, evoking fears in the minds of the demigods.
The demigods fell, leaving only nine. Jason levitated into the air. When he opened his eyes, they were no longer blue, but instead, they had turned iridescent. Electricity seemed to fill the air, for it indeed did flicker around him, lighting wreathing his entire body.
He let loose, tendrils of electricity lashing through the ranks, pulverizing waves of monsters instantly. Hazel saw herself summoning the mist, shooting out diamond storms. Legions of skeletons rose from the ground, answering the call of their King.
Steaming geysers burst from the ground and swallowed monsters whole as Percy stamped his feet. Monsters seemed to drop dead of their own accord as Annabeth snuck around. Leo lit two ball-peen hammers on fire and swung, frying creatures in an instant. Frank ran out of arrows and charged into the battlefield in the form of a rhinoceros. Piper turned monsters against each other using her charmspeak, and they attacked each other in their confusion.
Percy braced against the surging monsters and said, 'Back!'
Just before they slammed into him, a massive funnel of ice and water surged up around Percy, pushing the monsters back. Winds buffeted everyone, and lightning flickered around him.
Then everything was black.
'Hazel! HAZEL!'
She snapped her eyes open and shot out of bed, her spatha in her hand.
Nico held his hands up. 'Whoa, Haze. Calm down.
Hazel was breathing heavily. 'Nightmare.'
'Are you feeling better?'
'No.'
'I'll get Frank. You take a few minutes off, then we need to go to McGonagall.'
'There is no need to worry Frank. I'll be fine. Let me freshen up and then we will go to the Headmistress.'
He gave her a concerned look-over. 'Are you sure?'
'Nico, please. I will be fine, there is no need for you to worry this much.'
'Alright, alright.'
Hazel took a quick shower and hurried to catch up with the rest of her friends. She- after all they had gone through- was still surprised to see them waiting for her. She still had not gotten over the dark days when she thought that no one would accept her because of her past. A silly notion, especially nowadays.
'What does McGonagall want us for?' she asked.
'Dunno. She just told us to meet her in her office in the morning. Let's get cracking, yeah?'
Percy knocked twice on the stone gargoyle that stood at the entrance of the headmistress' office.
'Come in,' she said from inside the room.
The headmistress' office was very large, larger than she had expected. Heck, Hazel would go as far as to say that it was bigger than the Via Praetoria. The three things that caught her eye the most were a sword, etched in silver, and a portrait of the same person that was installed in front of their dorm... Dumbledore was it? The third was the frayed and parched Sorting Hat.
McGonagall followed her gaze. 'Ah, yes. Albus Dumbledore was one of the greatest wizards of all time. He was the one who defeated Gellert Grindelwald and he played a major role in the defeat of Voldemort. I will tell you the full story later if you wish for it.
The sword is the blade of Godric Gryffindor and it reveals itself to only hose who are true Gryffindors.'
'Does the Sorting Hat make a new song every year?'
'Yes. But pleasant chatter is not for what I have called you here.'
McGonagall's face indicated that they would most probably not be a fan of whatever she was going to propose. 'Do not interrupt me before I finish. I want you to take the post of Healing. I have chosen you after talking with Chiron and consulting healers around Wizarding Britain. My reasoning is that because you have the most experience with coping with the aftermath of wars, you would be able to help out the students.'
'So this is what Chiron meant by this being "a favor for you and a favor from you"?'
'Yes.'
The friends looked at each other, and they came to the same conclusion. Fighting together to save the world multiple times had brought them onto the same wavelength, and they could basically communicate telepathically.
'We will do it.'
McGonagall sighed with relief. 'Thank you. Now, onto the next order of-'
Nico held up a hand to silence her and pointed to the door, signaling that there were some people standing outside.
'Enemies?' she mouthed to him.
He shook his head, but kept his hand on his blade pommel anyway, a motion which the rest of them followed.
'Whoever it is, come in,' McGonagall said.
There was no response; evidently whoever it was had scammed away. Nico sighed and tackled the door open, causing bodies to thud onto the ground.
'Potter, Weasely, Granger, what are the three of you doing here?' McGonagall asked, the barest hint of steel in her voice.
Hermione stammered, 'We were looking for you Professor, because our schedules did not have Healing on any of the days and we just wanted to ask you about it.'
Her face took on a look of mild amusement. 'Granger, you can lie better than that.'
From beside her, Will shook his head. 'She isn't lying.'
Ron and Harry shot him an amazed look. 'Mate, how in tarnation did you know? You have an in-built lie detector or something?'
Will smiled faintly. 'Something along those lines.'
'To answer your question, these students will be the teachers for Healing, starting today.'
The two parties stared at her in shock, for two very distinct reasons.
'You want us to have lessons prepared by today?' Reyna said.
At the same time, Harry said, 'I mean no offense, but what makes them qualified to teach the subject?'
The Headmistress raised an eyebrow. 'Yes, your first lessons are today, and yes, you have to do them. Potter, your question will be answered in the class.
