The following morning, I awoke to the sound of loud, aggressive knocking at my front door. Panic surged through me as I feared that Peter had somehow tracked me down and was now outside my home.
I cautiously approached the door, my heart pounding, and peeked through the peephole. To my relief, it was James, though his expression was anything but friendly. With trembling hands, I opened the door.
"Remus," James began, his voice seething with anger, "we need to talk about last night."
I invited him inside, and as we sat down in the living room, James wasted no time in demanding an explanation for what had transpired during my date. It became apparent that Sirius had filled him in on every detail of the uncomfortable and unsafe situation I had found myself in, and James was determined to get answers.
As James continued to question me about the events of the previous night, I felt a growing frustration and resentment towards Sirius for sharing my personal and vulnerable experience without my consent. Finally, I couldn't contain my emotions any longer.
"James, I appreciate your concern, but this wasn't your story to hear from Sirius," I began, my voice shaky but determined. "What happened between me and Peter was my experience to share when I was ready."
Sirius, who had been sitting quietly, nodded in acknowledgment of my words. He realized he had overstepped his boundaries, and his expression showed remorse.
James, on the other hand, looked taken aback but eventually nodded in understanding. "You're right, Remus. I'm sorry for prying. It's just... I was worried about you."
I appreciated James' concern but wanted to emphasize the importance of respecting personal boundaries. It was a conversation that needed to happen, not just for my sake but for the trust and respect we shared as friends.
After a while James excused himself to go to the bathroom, there was a moment of silence between Sirius and me. The atmosphere was charged with unspoken questions, and it was clear that the kiss from the night before weighed heavily on both of our minds.
I cleared my throat, breaking the silence. "Sirius, about last night..."
He turned to me, his expression a mix of curiosity and anticipation. "Remus, I meant what I said. I care about you deeply."
I nodded, my heart pounding as I tried to put my feelings into words. "I care about you too, Sirius. It's just... it's complicated."
Sirius reached out, his hand gently resting on mine. "I know it is," he said softly. "We'll figure it out, Remus. But for now, let's just take it one step at a time, okay?"
I met his gaze, finding comfort in his understanding and the unspoken promise of a future conversation. With James returning from the bathroom, we left our feelings hanging in the air, knowing that the path ahead held both uncertainty and potential for something more.
