During one of my early days of teaching, as I was getting to know my students, one curious child raised their hand with a puzzled expression. "Mr. Lupin," they asked, "do you have a girlfriend?"
I smiled and replied, "No, I don't."
The child seemed to ponder for a moment before asking, "Do you have a wife, then?"
I shook my head and said, "No, not a wife either."
Confusion spread through the group of students, and they exchanged puzzled glances. Sensing their curiosity, I decided to clarify matters. "I'm not single," I explained, "because I have a boyfriend."
Their faces lit up with understanding, and a few of them even nodded with approving smiles. It was a moment that reminded me of the openness and acceptance that often came naturally to children, and it made me appreciate the diversity of the world I was helping to shape through my teaching.
