It was finally the weekend. Adelaide and Sam had spent the last few days talking about everything but football. Adelaide sat inside Sweden's dressing room her head down, all she could think about was her girlfriend who would be doing the same thing as her in the other dressing rooms.

"Ready Andy?" Magda came up behind her putting her hands on the blonde's shoulders.

"As I'll ever be." Andy responded, in truth she was ready. She was ready to discard her relationship for only 90 minutes.

"Let's go then, walkout is in 2 minutes." With that the team lined up next to the Aussie girls in the tunnel, neither daring to look at each other.

The stadium was buzzing with anticipation as Adelaide and Sam stood at opposite ends of the soccer field, their national team jerseys contrasting like a vivid clash of colors. It was the day they had both trained and dreamed for - the World Cup bronze medal match. But as the minutes ticked away before the game, the weight of the occasion bore down on them.

Adelaide's gaze was fixed on the concrete of the tunnel beneath her cleats , her fingers nervously twisting the hem of her jersey. The crowd's roar was deafening, the atmosphere electric, but it was the knot in her stomach that seemed to drown out everything else.

Sam approached her with a warm, understanding smile. Her hand gently reached out to touch Adelaide's arm, the contact sending a reassuring shiver down her spine.

"Hey," Sam said softly, her eyes reflecting the mix of emotions they were both feeling. "Nervous?"

Adelaide looked up at Sam, her brown eyes meeting Sam's deep blue ones. "Terrified," she admitted, a shaky laugh escaping her lips. "This is huge, isn't it?"

Sam nodded, her expression a mix of empathy and determination. "Yeah, it is. But you know what? We've been through so much together Andy. We've faced obstacles on and off the field. Today is just another challenge, and we'll face it together, just like we always do."

Adelaide couldn't help but smile at Sam's unwavering support. She stepped closer, their foreheads touching as they shared a brief moment of closeness amid the chaos surrounding them. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Sammy," Adelaide whispered.

Sam's smile widened, and she placed a gentle kiss on Adelaide's lips. "You'll never have to find out," she said, her voice filled with reassurance. "Remember, no matter what happens out there, we'll still be each other's biggest fans. We'll cheer each other on, even if it means one of us has to win and the other doesn't."

Adelaide took a deep breath, feeling the tension in her body begin to ease. Sam was right. They had come so far together, and their love and support had always been the foundation of their success.

As they separated, the stadium's PA system announced the teams' entrance onto the field, and the crowd's roar grew even louder. Adelaide and Sam shared one last, lingering look, drawing strength from each other's presence.
