A/N: I am so sorry that I haven't written in so long. It has been a crazy few months. But I am going to be trying to get chapters out a bit more. This chapter is a bit crazy. But thank you for those of you who are still reading my story, and are still being patient with me. I am still writing for you guys. Thank you
I'm lying on a bed in Uncle Joey's basement. He is standing there, his pants on the floor and a cigarette in his hand. He starts to walk towards me and I start to struggle, but not being able to move because of the restraints. He gets over to me and sits on the edge of my bed, twirling the cigarette through his fingers.
"Don't worry Bunny. This will only hurt a lot."
I shoot up, gasping and looking around in fear. I take in my surroundings. I'm in a hospital. The walls are a darker pink, something that isn't too bright, but is still cheery. I can hear a machine beeping in the background. I look beside me and gasp, seeing Veronica. I instantly hug her, forgetting that she just had surgery and she was sleeping. Her eyes fly open and for a second there is panic. But once she sees it is me she wraps me in a hug, wincing slightly from the movement. I shift so that she won't be in as much pain and we stay wrapped together, not moving. Suddenly I hear a door open and close with hurried footsteps. We uncurl but continue to hold hands. 3 doctors are standing there. I recognize Shalie, and the doctor who took Veronica away for surgery. I recognize the other one, but I can't remember her name. They look flustered as they look at our heart monitors then back at us. Shalie comes over to me, a smile shining over her face.
"Hailey. I am so glad to see that you are awake. How are you feeling?" I smile back at her, taking a second to evaluate my body.
"I am feeling alright. It still hurts a lot. But not the same kind of hurt. If you understand that." She nods, grabbing my hand and smiling.
"We came over here as quickly as we could. We got told that your heart monitor was going faster and we were worried. But you are awake now, and you seem to be just fine. Do you know why your heart rate was up?" I nod my head, squeezing Veronica's hand.
"I just had a nightmare is all." Shalie nods and stands up again, walking back over to the others. The other doctor, who didn't work on Veronica, walks forward.
"I'm not sure if you girls remember me that well. I am Jaclyn. And this is Keira," she points to the doctor who operated on Veronica and I try my best to remember the name. "And this is Shalie." I smile, already knowing Shalie's name but not knowing if Veronica does. She walks forward and grabs both of our charts, starting to flip through them.
"I know that you girls must be tired, but we do need to do a quick check-up and take some blood for testing. Is that ok?" I nod, looking over at Veronica. She's gone a bit pale at the mention of blood. I squeeze her hand, causing her to look at me.
"Nica. It's gonna be fine. They can take my blood first. Just relax." She nods, taking a deep breath and turning back to the other doctors. Keira and Shalie start to walk around the room, grabbing stuff while Jaclyn starts talking.
"Your parents are still talking with the police currently. But as soon as they are done, they will be back up here to check up on you guys. We have officers outside of your door, so you guys will have extra security. Now I am very glad to see that you two are doing so well. But there is still a long way to go. Tomorrow, if you guys are feeling up to it, we will have the police and some psychiatrists up here to talk with you guys. We will see how you guys are feeling before all of that though. We will have to continue running some tests for a few days just to make sure that everything is healing nicely. And if all goes well, you girls should be able to head home in about 1-2 weeks." We nod, both of us still holding hands. Shalie has come over to my side and is starting to prep my arm. I look over at her, smiling. She smiles back at me then ties the elastic onto my arm, starting to look for a good vein. She finds one and presses the needle in, starting to take the blood. I wince slightly from the initial sting but after a couple of seconds, I don't feel anything. I look over at Veronica, who is looking a little bit pale but is staying strong. Keira gently grabs her arm and ties the elastic on. I squeeze Veronica's hand and lock my eyes on hers as Keira finds the vein and sticks the needle in. Veronica winces but never breaks eye contact with me. Shalie finishes up with mine and I keep my eyes locked on Veronica's until Keira finishes her. Once we are both done we finally look away from each other, turning to face Jaclyn, who has started talking again.
