October 1995 - Hogwarts

I don't know what happened overnight, but the nervousness was gone in the morning. I met up with my friends to walk to breakfast like I did every morning, but this time, I wasn't just meeting up with my friends. I was meeting up with my friends and my boyfriend. And even though a lot had technically changed, I felt exactly the same. Harry and I were acting exactly the same around each other as we usually did, yet it just made more sense. And that's when I realized that we had been acting like we were dating this whole time.

But it wasn't until a few weeks later that I found out that there was a heavy load that came with being Harry Potter's girlfriend. When he finally agreed to tell me about Voldemort, I realized what I had gotten myself into. And I was prepared to stand by him no matter what. But it still scared me to know that I was now facing things beyond what teenagers should have to face. This was the day that everything in my life changed. The day where I learned just what was going on, and just how involved I would have to become.

Harry, Ron, Hermione, and I all sat down by the fire in the common room on a stormy night. I could tell this was going to be a serious conversation. A conversation nobody wanted to have.

"Grace," Hermione said. "Let's start out easy. What do you know about Voldemort?"

"I know that he's evil. And Harry is supposed to kill him."

"Blimey. Is that it?" Ron commented. Hermione nudged him harshly.

"Ron," she said. "She hasn't been exposed to the matter as much as we have."

"And my dad doesn't like me to know about this stuff. He doesn't want me involved."

"That's odd," Ron said. "He's just as much tied up in it as anyone."

"What?" I asked.

"Okay, guys," Harry interrupted. "You're confusing her. Just let me explain." Harry and I focused our attention on each other. "A long time ago, Grace, Voldemort was a dark wizard who sought to be all-powerful. He wanted to rid the world of all muggles, muggle-borns, and half-bloods. Basically, he wanted an entirely pure-blood world. He gathered followers known as death eaters. Your father was one of them." My eyes widened as he told me this.

"Are you serious?" I asked.

"Yes. But Dumbledore swears he's become a spy for him."

"A spy for Dumbledore?" I asked. "What does Dumbledore have to do with this?"

"I'll get there," he promised. "There were other death eaters. Malfoy's father. Crabbe and Goyle. Both death eater families. In fact, a lot of Slytherin students come from death-eater families. That's why people don't like them."

"But that's not fair," I said, defending Slytherin. "Their parents were followers of Voldemort, not them."

"Don't you think a loyal death eater would raise their kid to be the same?" Ron pointed out.

"Not Jane, though. Right?"

"I don't know, Grace," Harry said. "But just like there were active followers of Voldemort, there were people actively trying to stop him. Dumbledore started the order of the phoenix to fight Voldemort during the war. My parents were in it. My godfather, Sirius, was too. And Neville's parents."

"So what happened?" I asked.

"Voldemort heard of a prophecy," he said. "It said that there would be a boy whose powers would end him."

"You?" I asked. Harry sighed.

"Yeah," he said. "Me. So he tried to kill me. He killed my parents, and he tried to kill me. But my mum had used a protection charm, and the curse rebounded, and he died. But the death eaters never stopped trying to bring him back. And he is back. And Fudge has lost his mind. He wants people to believe that he's not back so they feel safe."

"That's insane," I said. "If he's back, people need to be prepared."

"Exactly," Hermione said angrily. "And he's put that toad woman in charge of teaching the most important class we could have right now. We're not learning how to defend ourselves. We're not learning how to pass our OWLs. She's taking over the entire school." We heard the radio in the background as Harry turned the volume up.

"...that these disappearances are the work of notorious mass murderer, Sirius Black."

"Harry," we heard a voice say. An older voice, definitely not a student.

"Sirius," Harry said as he ran to the fireplace. There, Harry's godfather's face appeared in the fire. "What are you doing here?"

"Answering your letter," he said. We all gathered around the fire to talk to him. "You said you were worried about Umbridge. What's she doing? Training you to kill half-breeds?"

"Sirius, she's not letting us use magic at all," Harry said.

"Well, I'm not surprised," he said. "The latest intelligence is that Fudge doesn't want you trained in combat."

"Combat?" Ron asked. "What does he think? We're forming some sort of wizard army?"

"Oh, that's exactly what he thinks," Sirius said. "That Dumbledore is assembling his own forces to take on the ministry."

"Like the order?" I asked.

"Not exactly like- oh, hello," he said. "Harry, I didn't know you had another friend."

"Girlfriend," I said. Then I heard how I sounded a little ridiculous and laughed at myself a little "Not that it makes much of a difference to you. I'm Grace." He gasped.

"Snape?"

"Yes."

"You be careful," Sirius warned. "Your father wouldn't like this at all. Anyways,

Fudge is becoming more paranoid by the minute. The others wouldn't want me telling you this, Harry. But things aren't going at all well with the Order. Fudge is blocking the truth at every turn. And these disappearances are just how they started before. Voldemort is on the move."

"Well, what can we do?" Harry asked. Sirius heard something on his end.

"Someone's coming," he said. "I'm sorry I can't be of more help. But for now, at least...it looks like you're on your own." Sirius disappeared into the flames. The four of us looked out the window as the thunder rumbled.

"He really is out there, isn't he?" Hermione said. "We've got to be able to defend ourselves. And if Umbridge refuses to teach us how...

"We need someone who will," I said. We all looked at Harry. If anyone knew how it was Harry.
