The car door slammed closed. Lloyd walked away furiously, his fists clenched at his sides. His face held a deep snarl. Angry tears pooled in his eyes but didn't fall. Lloyd wouldn't show weakness. He couldn't. That's what she wants him to feel—a weak little puppy who couldn't defend himself. Again and again, she told him that he could never live without her. And without her he is nothing. So many times did she manipulate him into doing her bidding, whether it was good or not. So many times would he walk away only to return with her standing at the doorway waiting for him.
It was like he was addicted to her, he was always coming back to her, but it was only her who wanted more. He had to admit, as shameful as it was, that he loved her. Or he thought that was what love was. Her constant lectures about who he was to be and how he was to act around her seemed caring at first, or so he thought. As she was demanding more from him each coming day, Lloyd came to realize that it was not the relationship he wanted. But who cared about what he wanted?
It always had to be about her, how beautiful she was, how smart, how interesting. Not about Lloyd, no not ever. If it were to be about Lloyd it was always criticism. 'Fix your hair! Straighten your shirt, Smile more!' Nothing he did was ever enough for her. There was always something he had to fix. She was always talking about how he didn't deserve her and how she was worth more than him. Those small, but sharp comments puncture Lloyd like daggers. Slowly and silently chipping away at his self-esteem and his opinion of his self-worth.
Of course, she was not always this evil, nor was he always this dependent on her. She was an angel at first. Like they always say, Lucifer was once an angel. She was caring she was loving. She never was rude, she knew her place, she was kind, but she was sly. She was always sly. She was also smart, she got whatever she wanted but no one could tell she was manipulating them until half their life savings were gone. She had a way of luring people in with her outside looks, just as a siren with their song. She would locate her target walk past them, trip, and fall into their arms as they caught her. Next thing you know, she's got everything you owned. Including your dignity.
Just like everyone else, Lloyd had fallen into her trap, not the same way. No, not at all. She didn't know when it happened, but somehow she managed to get Lloyd Garmadon on her list of must-haves. It was easy at first, but she found something in him that the rest of the others lacked. Obedience. Not just obedience to those above them, but to her as well. Soon she had him running errands for her as she sat down and propped her legs up. Those errands and small deeds led to their relationship, still, even then she was still using him. The errands turned into chores and those turned into worse fates. She had him do her dirty work, she had him work against his morals, against the law. But she didn't care it was all about herself. Aways about herself.
It had come to the point where Lloyd would already know what she would ask of him. Still, she was never satisfied. She wanted more, she always wanted more. She wanted this or she wanted that. There was not a single time when she was content with what she had. Lloyds friends and family disliked her a lot, for how she treated Lloyd. She was always 'Loving and caring' in front of them but the moment they left the room she would go back to her usual complaining.
Lloyd was tired, he was upset, he was angry, and he felt used. But she didn't care. She never cared about how he was feeling. That was unless she needed to use him for something. Often she would make a snarky remark about him and how he is always so sad around her. She knew why he was, but loved the entertainment he provided as she watched him rant about how he felt used. She never listened, she never batted an eye to his complaints, she didn't even try to make an effort to hide her true self from him. That's why he left. That's why that one faithful night after an expensive date, driving home listening to her annoying rants, he snapped. His obedience, his patience, and his caring tone left. He yelled at her, and she sure as hell deserved it.
So as he walked along the sidewalk breathing in the cold night air, he promised himself.
He would never go back....
