These days us country boys are getting into a bind

Gas prices through the roof like a stoner who is high

Because the high right now is the price of gas

The road and the music help drown out the past

I'm burning gas by the liter

This getting over you isn't getting any cheaper

Her voice echoes throughout the trees

As summer becomes fall and they shed their leaves

The sweet scent of summer is already gone

Soon it'll be winter before the dawn

Not much happens in the snow filled lonely state

Wishing in winter there was some sort of escape

There's freedom in the road solace in the white lines

Music through speakers takes you back into time

When you were 17 and Chevy with one girl on your mind

Schedules didn't matter you were on God's time

After things ended there is no one riding shotgun

All those years you spent only just to be on the run

I got a new truck to try and help fix

The lack of our shotgun rider to sing songs with

Regardless of the matter the idea didn't fix

There ain't a 4x4 round that can get me out of this ditch

Because there's not too many back roads that haven't been on drunk

Out running her memory with a trail of hell behind my truck

Getting there first is never my intention

As the days get shorter so do these dirt road sessions

When on this heart broke highway there is nowhere to go

If I go off road I'll throw it in four low

They say speed can get me over here quickly but it's never fast enough

there's not enough numbers on the speedometer that can outrun a lost love

There have been times I've had to pull over

Sitting there in tears in park on the shoulder

Over the years my dollars turn into a cloud of dust

With that old Chevy getting covered in rust

The petal to the black top getting over her ain't cheap

The days seem longer than the nights getting minimal sleep

Though the long drives are soothing as my heart begins to rust

I still have to go back home knowing I wasn't enough

you might as well have taken everything that I own along with my love

when in your absence of your presence I still have my truck

Whiskey and gas are getting expensive in lonesomeheartsville

Going bar to bar, tab to tab, I just might send you the bill

How can I be so high when I feel so damn low

Things like heartbreak can't be solved on the open road

Chasing those old white lines on this heartbroke highway

Not a lot of people make it out of life doing it my way

Cause the devil's on my shoulder

Calling me closer to death from heartbreak I can't get over

So here I am now rolling 65 again

Pedal to the blacktop radio maxed out to 110

Putting more miles between us

So I don't have to see you again

Life is full of disappointments but this dirt road don't

A place where you wouldn't want a 68 fastback to go

So yeah my old truck you might have ruined

This new one will get me over you soon

Life is so much sweeter when you taste it

I'd rather be on the road than staying at home to waste it

I'll see how fast so let's see how fast the solid black truck can go

In order to outrun your memory flying down the road
