A late-night conversation and more troubling feelings.
Elvis stepped out of Austin's apartment building sensation still tingling on his lips from the passionate kiss with Austin. The contrast of the refreshing breeze against his flushed face as he made his way to his car. The neon lights of Memphis's main street were a sight to behold, illuminating the dark sky with a magical glow that cast a spell over the area.
Driving home, Elvis's heart raced with a heady mixture of excitement and fear. Could he really be falling for another man? He had always been aware of his interest in Austin, but tonight had solidified their connection. The thought of what this could mean for his career sent a shiver down his spine. But he honestly didn't feel an ounce of regret about what had occurred that afternoon.
As he drove past the grand gates of Graceland, Elvis felt a sense of relief wash over him. The chaos of the outside world seemed to fade away as he entered his sanctuary. Walking through the front door, he found his parents waiting for him in the comfortable lounge, his mother's eyes filled with worried anticipation. The concern etched on their faces was impossible to ignore, and he knew he couldn't avoid their questions any longer.
His mother spoke first, her voice laced with gentle concern, "Elvis, where have you been all afternoon? We've been worried sick. Have you encountered some troublesome fans again?"
Elvis grinned, his charismatic charm shining through, as he reassured them, "Nah, don't you worry, Mama. Everything's fine. I was just out with a friend, grabbing a meal and enjoying some good music."
His mother, ever the attentive guardian, refused to let the matter rest.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she pressed on, her tone soft but insistent, "And who is this mysterious friend you were with, Elvis?"A bead of sweat formed on Elvis's forehead as he hesitated, the weight of secrecy bearing heavily upon him. Taking a deep breath, he mustered the courage to speak, his voice tinged with vulnerability, "It's Austin, Mama. Just Austin. We were hanging out, listening to music... and talking about life."He cleared his throat, the lump of apprehension threatening to choke him. Trying to divert his mother's curiosity, he added hastily, "I'll see you in the morning, Mama. Goodnight."
With those hurried words, Elvis turned and made a swift retreat to his bedroom. He knew his mother would have more questions, but he needed time to process his own emotions and contemplate the consequences of revealing the truth. As the door closed behind him, he sank onto his bed, staring at the ceiling, wondering how his parents would react to the knowledge that he had been spending time with someone they might not approve of. He had not only kissed Austin, but they had also confessed their feelings for each other. The rush of emotion coursed through his veins, simultaneously terrifying and exhilarating him. As he reflected on the events of the past few hours, he couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the intensity of his emotions. It was a moment that he would never forget.
Elvis rose from his bed, a nervous energy still coursing through his veins. In an effort to quell the restless thoughts that were swirling around in his mind, he decided to take a long, hot shower. As the water cascaded down over him, he felt a temporary sense of calm wash over him, but it was fleeting. His mind kept returning to the image of Austin's lips on his own, and he couldn't help but feel a little bit confused and uncertain. After he finished his shower and dried off, Elvis changed into his favourite pair of pyjamas and climbed back into bed, hoping to find some measure of peace and tranquillity.

Keeping his promise, Elvis reached across the rumpled bedsheets and grasped the sleek, black phone resting on the bedside table. Anxiety gripped his heart, fearing that Austin might already be asleep. Thoughts raced through his mind, each one more irrational than the last. What if Austin didn't answer? What if he was already fast asleep, oblivious to Elvis' yearning to hear his voice once more?
"Hello?" Austin's groggy voice answered.
"Hey, it's me," Elvis said, his voice trembling slightly.
"Aaron? Missed me already, huh?" Austin's tone held a playful lilt, teasing him gently.
A fond smile tugged at the corners of Elvis' lips. "Yeah, more than you know, darlin'. I just wanted to hear your voice again," he admitted, the vulnerability and affection palpable in his voice.
There was a momentary silence, and then Austin's voice softened. "I'm glad you called," he confessed, Austin's voice softened "I'm glad you called. I was hoping to hear from you."
And so, their conversation flowed effortlessly, laughter punctuating their words as they shared small details of their day and entertained each other with playful banter. As exhaustion overcame Austin, his voice grew heavy with fatigue until he gradually succumbed to slumber, his breaths lulling into gentle, rhythmic snores. As Elvis listened to the symphony of those light snores, a mischievous smirk tugged at his lips. He chuckled admiringly, his heart swelling with affection for the man on the other side of the phone.
Carefully, he tucked his phone back into its holder on the bedside table. Contentment crept over Elvis, like a warm blanket on a chilly night. The uncertainty that sometimes plagued him about where his relationship with Austin was headed momentarily faded into the background.
Right now, in this precious moment, all that mattered was that Austin was a part of his life. And for that, Elvis was filled with a quiet joy that mirrored the peaceful stillness of the night.
