Chapter 13 ~ surprise guest ~

Grabbing his keys he walked out of the door and was putting his shoes on outside when he heard someone knocking on the door of Tap's cottage. Glancing over he saw a very attractive woman with long dark brown hair, she wore a pair of mustard colored shorts and a pale lemon tube top.

Chet saw the door open before the woman spoke in English with an American accent,

"surprise" she shouted gleefully stretching out her arms.

"Nikki?, what the hell are you doing here" Chet could hear Taps voice even though he couldn't see him.

"I thought I'd better get my ass over here and see what all the shouting was about" the woman replied.

"well then, you better get your ass in here and I'll make you a cold one" he heard Tap say.

"you read my mind baby" the woman said.

Chet looked away, he knew it was nothing to do with him who visited Tap but why did he feel weird, his throat constricted and he felt depressed, he suddenly felt very alone. He left to go and buy groceries but all the while he was wondering who the woman was and what they were doing inside Tap's cottage.

He was supposed to be using this time to think about his own feelings but how could he focus now? Grabbing the groceries he needed he paid for them before heading back to his cottage, when he returned there were no sounds at all coming from the neighboring cottage.

Chet quickly went inside and unpacked his supplies before slipping off his sticky clothes and jumping in the shower. He dressed in shorts and a tee shirt before making himself a cup of green tea.

Meanwhile up at the resort, Tap, Nikki Lon and Andy were in the bar enjoying a drink and planning a barbecue.

"the guys are arriving later Tap, we could have it after they get here" Nikki said.

"good plan, give them a couple of days to recover from the journey then we'll plan something" Tap said.

Tap thought of Chet and wondered if he was ok but it's not like he could go round and ask after all he had promised to give him some space. Luckily for him, Nikki was here and the guys were on their way over to Thailand so he had his friends to keep him company and take his mind off the situation.

"what about Chet, he's cooling his heels itching to get back to work" Lon asked.

"it's good he's being forced to take a break, his parents seem concerned about him that he doesn't take enough time off" Tap said.

Lon and Andy exchanged glances knowingly and the exchange didn't go unnoticed by Nikki,

"who is this Chet person?" she asked.

"he's the manager of the resort" Lon replied.

"is he cute?" she asked again.

"he's spoken for Tap replied.

"interesting" she said sipping on her mocktail.

The group decided to have dinner together in the resort dining room considering that Nikki had a room upstairs and Lon had called Chet to invite him but Chet had declined saying he was busy.

In truth when Lon had said whom they would be dining with, he knew he wouldn't be able to stomach seeing Tap and the gorgeous brunette together, it would be torture. Tap had overheard Lon talking on his phone with Chet and inviting him to dinner, he knew that Chet had declined and he wondered why?

Was it because he was going to be there, had he already decided he didn't want to pursue a relationship? He hoped that Chet would hurry up and put him out of his misery, it would be torture waiting to find out how he wanted to move forward.
