Worry rushed through my core and the beating of my heart was increasing is speed with each second that passed, I braced myself and picked up the test, "Its..."
I turned the test around and gasped at the results — one line.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I sighed of relief mentally thanking god, "Its negative." I could hear Sy and Helena finally breath like weights were lifted of their shoulders as well.
They rushed through the door and pulled me into a hug, "We need to celebrate this." Helena whispered. I nodded, "We do."

"My taste buds are in heaven right now!" I exclaimed, slurping the broth of the Pho. We decided to go to our favorite restaurant from when we were in college to celebrate me not being pregnant.
Its been years since we've been here and the place was exactly the same.
"It's exactly how I remember!" Helena beamed.
"Yeah, but I'm stuffed," Sy added, placing her hand onto her stomach.
Helena and I laughed at Sy, "You look like you're pregnant, Auntie Sy!" Lila joked. Me and Sy made eye contact with each other before entering a laughing fit.
We all chatted for thirty minutes more before paying for our food and leaving the restaurant.
"It's getting dark," I spoke looking up, the sunset filling the horizon — painting the sky in gorgeous reds, oranges and pinks.
"Yeah, we should head back." Helena said, carrying Lila who was sleeping.
"You guys go...there's something I have to do." I spoke. Sy turned to face me, "Is everything alright?"
"Yeah I'm fine...I just have something to do, get home safe okay." Her and Helena nodded in response, and I took my leave.
The street lights started to turn on illuminating my path and a drifted deep into thought as I walked. I stopped at a cemetery and walked with sadness in my heart, my feet stopped moving at a familiar grave.
Mom.
I sat down on the grass and leaned on her grave, it looked abandoned like no one visited for years. I placed the bouquet of flowers I purchased from a street vendor on the ground.
"I'm sorry for not visiting you."
"Alots happened and I couldn't find the time to drive hours to visit you...but I should've."
"I guess I just...still resent you."
"...for leaving."
Tears started streaming down my eyes as I spoke, "I dont...not anymore at least but when you first left I was lonely. It was just dad and I in that large house."
"It was suffocating and the only way that I was able to cope was by blaming you for everything."
I closed my eyes and allowed myself to finally relax, like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I'm not sure how much time passed but when I opened my eyes it was pitch dark.

I opened the door to our apartment to be met with the sight of darkness — instantly uneasiness rushed through my core, it was only nine Sy and Helena would never go to sleep this early. In all the years we've been friends they've never done that.
The lights turned on and I was met with a scaring sight — Sy, Helena and Lila all tied up with men in black standing behind them. Enzo's men.
A hand grabbed my wrist and I hastily turned to face whoever it was — Luca.
I took a deep breath, "So this is it, right?" I spoke calmly, there was no need for me to fight it — if I did, I'd just be endangering everyone more than I already have.
Luca nodded in response and I saw a glimmer of sadness in his eyes but it only stayed for a moment before reverting back to his usual, cold look.
"You promise not to hurt them?...you didn't hurt them right?"
"No, they're fine and they'll continue to be fine as long as you obey." He replied.
"Untie them first." I demand turning to the three of them. Luca signaled for the men to listen and they did.
Sy ran to hug me while Helena went to comfort Lila who was crying.
"Don't go," Sy whispered in my ear, her voice breaking.
"I have to, Sy. If I don't I won't be able to ensure the safety of you three."
"And if anything happens to you guys, I'll n-never forgive myself." I stammered, tears rushing down my cheeks.
I pulled away from the hug and placed my hands on her shoulders, "I love you okay, stay strong."
I took a deep breath and turned to walk towards Luca but was stopped by Sy grabbing my wrists, forcing me to face her once more. She gave me a look pure despair.
I don't think I'll ever be able to forget that look.
"The next time we see each other, the circumstances will be different," I spoke, giving her a fake smile.
"Don't look for me, don't make things hard on yourself."
She shook her head, not being able to speak, "Sy." I tightened my grip on her hands.
"Promise me."
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she nodded her head, "Okay...Okay." She spoke. I released her hands from my grip and turned to Luca.
This time Sy didn't dare to stop me. I turned to face her once more and mouthed 'I love you' giving her a soft smile.
I'll never be free.
