Chapter 10

Lando's POV

The next morning I woke up refreshed and ready for race day. I quickly got ready, had a healthy breakfast and headed with my PR manager and trainer to the track. As I entered the track I saw Stefania walking up ahead with Max as they headed towards the RedBull garage. I ran up to them and stole Max's cap as I ran before running away to the safety of my garage.

"Oi Lando get back here, give me my cap."Max shouted as I looked back to see Stefania laughing as Max ran behind me.

"I'll see you later mate goodbye."I shouted back throwing his cap in the air before running into the McLaren garage where he couldn't come.

"I'll get you Lando, just you wait."He replied before going back to his garage.

"You should do that more often you know."Stefania replied coming in front of the garage.

"It's funny isn't it seeing Max annoyed."I replied back chuckling.

"Yeah I'm already planning an amount of pranks I could pull off on him."She replied as I laughed along.

"Well make sure to include me in them alright."I replied back as she nodded.

"Well I've got to get going now Nia, I'll see you after the race."I replied as I heard Will calling for me.

"Alright see you later Lan good luck for the race."She replied before waving goodbye.

I watched her leave still standing outside the garage. I felt damn lucky to have met such a wonderful girl.

"Wonderful isn't it what love does to a person?"Zak my team principal spoke pulling me out of my daydream.

"Oh sorry Zak didn't see you there."I replied embarrassingly.

"Oh no worries Lando now go to Will before he chews somebody's head off."He replied as I nodded chuckling.

"One more thing Lando." Zak spoke up as I looked back again.

"Don't let her go, you've found a gem you won't find genuine people like her these days."He replied.

"I won't mess it up Zak even I understand that by now."I replied as he gave me a thumbs up.

After going through the pre race debrief with my engineers and attending the drivers parade, it was finally time to race. I sat in my car on the grid lining up on the first row alongside Max.

"Ok Lando radio check."Will spoke into the radio.

"Yep loud and clear."I replied back.

"Alright so the first stint is going to be as per the plan, weather radars are suggesting rain could come during the middle part of the race we will keep you updated."He replied.

"Alright mate got it."I replied back.

Soon we set off for the formation lap as we went round the track warming up our tyres to get the best possible start we could. I came back to my grid position and saw the light go red one by one before they disappeared and the race was on.

I went up the gears accelerating quickly as Max maintained the lead into turn 1 unfortunately for me. I stuck to the back of him as we went around the twisty sector 2 not wanting to fall back from him when DRS gets activated.

"Alright good opening lap Lando, now try to stay as close to Max as possible, since Checo is behind you we want to try and keep the position for now."Will replied as I pressed my confirm button to tell them I had received their message.

After the opening lap the race settled down a bit as I couldn't hold onto Max for much longer since he clearly has the quicker. We were on lap 50 of the Dutch grand prix when the rain started falling suddenly very heavily.

"Lando bring the car into the pits carefully, we're giving you the full wets. This heavy rain might last till the end of the race."Will replied

"Alright boxing now Will."I replied as I got new tyres on and exited the pit just as fast as I had entered it.
However, I had fallen down to P5 and I needed to make some time up by getting some overtakes on.
I was surprisingly comfortable immediately as I passed the Mercedes of my friend George Russell pretty easily, I then got in the back of Lewis Hamilton and overtook him as well getting into the podium positions.

"Lando unfortunately Checo has managed to undercut us, he had a great stint on the medium tyres and is currently 10 seconds ahead. There are 5 laps to go you are competing now for best of the rest."Will replied.

"I see well we'll talk about this in the debrief alright."I replied back.

"Yes copy."Will replied back shortly.

I had ended the race in P3 and I wished that I had at least finished in P2 where I started. I instantly knew Max had won because I was in the middle of the orange smoke from the crowd that seemed to cover the sky.

As I pulled into parc ferme, I went over to congratulate both Max and Checo on their 1-2 result.

"Congrats on a wonderful race mate."I replied as the both of the congratulated me as well before we talked about the race a bit before leaving to finish a few interviews and photo shoots.

As I was leaving the track, I saw Stefania running up to me.

"Lan you drove brilliantly out there today, I'm so proud I know if you're car had more pace it would be flying in Q3 honestly."She replied making me smile.

"Thanks so much Nia, although I have something to ask you."I replied back wanting to ask her a question all day.

"Yeah what's up Lan?"She questioned.

"I want to take you out on a date in Italy next week."I spoke up gathering all my courage.

Stefania stood there dumbfounded for a while probably processing the information I just told her.

"I would love to go on a date with you Lan."She replied back happily after thinking through things quickly.

"Alright does 7 pm work for you Sunday night after the race?"I asked her.

"Yeah that's fine, thank you so much Lando this experience has been amazing I'll definitely go to Monza next week."She replied back happily.

Soon after we arrived back at our hotel and as I dropped her off at her hotel room, I sneaked a small peck on her check before waving her goodnight. I looked back to her where she was holding her cheek and her mouth wide open in shock.

"Close your mouth you'll catch flies, we're even now."I replied teasing her as she blushed while I reiterated the same thing she did to me yesterday.

Today was an amazing day, I feel like everyday I'm getting more confidence to ask Nia out and I'm also having wonderful races as of late. I couldn't wait for Monza to come sooner.
