Cliche to say a lot can happen in a span of almost a year. The devotion you assumed was eternal, slowly dwindles, eventually dissipating.
Consumed with grief, you gladly replaced with temporary love for someone that really wasn't worthy of such a devotion ..
This became my daily affirmation I reminded myself to believe.
For the first few weeks, I found it difficult
not getting flooded with thoughts of Joseph, our one night spent together. His touch, his lips, those sweet words."Jesus!" I mewled.
"What's that Steve?"
"Huh-Nothing , just .. thinking out loud."I'd picked up more shifts at Family Video to stay busy, it wasn't working. One good move I made out of all of this, I started taking courses at the local college.
Anything to keep me busy, the Munsons preoccupied my waking thoughts. I started doing a lot of running, working out. Imagine me, Steve; fitness fiend. One person I'd come to get closer to was Hargrove.
He stayed behind for Max, it was a tough year, for all of us respectively. I spent thanksgiving with him and Wayne. Joseph to my surprise did not make an appearance for the holidays. I can't judge him, I just know Wayne would've been happy to see him.
"He's not .. staying away because of me is he?"
"Harrington, full of yourself much."
"Sit on it Billy, it's just a question."
"Nah man, He's just busy with life, school and work."Billy had grown very private when it came to Joseph, it was as if he knew something but couldn't divulge any information?
"You do know I've sworn off men!"
"Really? All men or just one in particular?"
Shoving his arm he had resting onto the counter, his face almost face planted."Prick!"
Having a laugh at his expense, checking out his videos, he's fallen into a routine. Hospital, hanging with Wayne, rent movies .. repeat.
"Beers at the Hideout after my shift?"Tucking the vhs cassettes under his arm, he frowned. The old Billy would kick this Billy's ass, but I completely understood why.
"Picking you up around 9:30p, be ready! Not taking no for an answer."

Hargrove after a few beers loosened up to his old self, that's what he needed. He was so focused on Max, the news he was given by the dr's, the longer she was in a coma the more lasting effects there could be when and if she ever woke up.
