I saw my own reflection
when I looked at you
those familiar sad eyes,
that deceived the mask
you wore for the world.
Your words,
revealed the barriers
you have created
around your true self,
hidden deep within.
Deep down,
you were hurting,
yet your smile masked it all,
fooling the world
and I wanted to rescue
that vulnerable part of you,
free the child within your heart,
to shoulder your pain
and shield you from this harsh world.
But in the end,
we were alike,
both guarding ourselves
from the cruelty of this world.
