*Abby's POV*
Mom's reference towards the baby makes my heart sink. I had almost forgotten the whole situation today.
"Awe, do we have to leave?" Henley fake pouts.
Dani rolls her eyes, throwing a dish towel at her face.
"Well, on that note," she continues sarcastically.
Mom and Henley head over towards the door to slip on their shoes. Dani gives me a longing look and rounds the counter to stand in front of me. Her shoulders slump slightly and I can tell she's not happy about me leaving.
"Miss you," she whispers, pulling me into a hug.
I breathe her in, hugging back.
"And don't forget to text me so I don't have to show up unannounced again," she threatens.
"What don't wanna walk in to me only in my underwear?" I whisper into her ear. I smile as I feel her shiver.
"If it was up to me," she begins, nipping at my earlobe, "I would always come home to you in your underwear, waiting for me."
I cringe at her thoughts of the future. "I'll see you later," I speak, parting from her embrace.
*Dani's POV*
I don't know what I said to make her mood shift so suddenly. As she walks away from me,I feel a distance between us. Does she not see a future with me?
Thinking Back to earlier, how she stood up to Kait, how could she not at least debate a future with us. To be fair, she's never been in a relationship before and maybe I just need to give her some space.
The click of the door shutting behind them sinks me into a stool. I never realized how empty this place felt. Shuffling down the hall, I go to the office. Booting up the laptop, I dig thought some of my old files; within I find years of work that I just never finished.
Cracking my neck, I open the first file in the folder and begin to type.
