Today was the day. She was going back to training. Akali hated training days even more because of how early she had to get up.
She met Shen outside when the sun had barely even started peaking at the horizon. The master was motivated while the girl was trying to stay awake while he was briefing her on what she should and shouldn't do to not get hurt again. This conversation getting awkwardly cut by Akali's constant yawing.
The walking finally started but since it was daytime it should be much more safer, but it was still dark nonetheless. But what reassured Akali was that even though she almost died, a very dangerous demon had been scared off the forest for a while, sure it wasn't the worst one but probably the most brutal to attack its prey this way.
It was uncomfortably quiet, not even a single bird chirping or a bug singing. It made sense in consideration of what lured in between those trees but it was still really creepy. But it all stopped when they could finally saw the camp.
Training started, like usual, and things went, like usual. There really wasn't anything different except that it was hard moving for Akali because of her stomach. However things went pretty smoothly. The day had ended and Shen decided to not repeat the same mistake and to sleep at the camp instead. The idea looked even worse to the girl because, what better than to be even less aware of what's around you when you're asleep in the middle of the forest.
It was the dumbest idea she'd ever heard. But Shen was somehow very confident about it. And even though how much she trusts him there was no way that idea was sane. But again, does she even has a choice? So she just settles down hoping that things don't go wrong this time.
She somehow manages to fall asleep, at least for twenty minutes. Everything was waking her up, especially Shen's extremely loud snoring. The day went from being uncomfortable because it was too quiet from being uncomfortable because it's too noisy. There really wasn't a second where things went well in those woods.
Akali woke up mad against everything. She got up and came out of her tent. The second she stepped out the smell of darkness hits her. And it was powerful, really powerful. It was as strong as... that demon that let her live, Evelynn. Did she do exactly what Akali thoughts she would do?
It made sense but she was somehow surprised that a demon could have that little to do so it chases a random human for its own ego. She looks around herself holding on tightly to her knives, her heart pounding. The best thing to do right now would be to wake up Shen, he's the only one here that can actually be useful against her. But he was sleeping without a care in the world. And it somehow pained Akali to wake him up.
The girl had learned about that demon's ability to turn invisible. She had a chance to hide until the demon went away. Since Akali wasn't bleeding or anything, the demon couldn't smell her. But if she was invisible there is a high chance that she had already seen her. She needed to wake up Shen. There was no chance she was coming out of this alive without him. But she was paralyzed. The fear only allowed her to move her eyes around looking for a sign of where that demon was.
But it was all useless, because that demon was now right in front of her. She was terrifying close to her and that made Akali flinch. She was about to scream but the demon places a finger on her own lips, shushing her. The girl just wonders what right does she has to shush her like that but she, for some reason, restrains her scream. She feels something sharp against the back of her neck. It's Evelynn's slasher, a single bad move and she's finished.
If Shen saw what had just happened, he would be incredibly disappointed in her. But thank god he didn't. Evelynn, probably the demon that she should fear the most had just calmly shushed her like if she was a toddler.
The demon took a good long look at her, not moving her finger. Akali was shaking so badly she could barely stay on her feet. All she could do at the moment was praying, praying that she was going to come out of this alive, praying that Shen woke up in time. She just stared back at her while hoping that she might make it out alive.
