,,Bye Mr. Frodo! Have a lovely evening!" said Sam waving goodbye. He walked Frodo home, so he knew he was safe.
,,Byee. And thanks for today, it really meant a lot for me. Hope to see you soon!" Frodo waved back, standing on the doorstep, holding his bouquet in the other hand. He wanted to walk Sam home, but Sam insisted he will do it instead. Classic Sam, Frodo laughed to himself.
It was a quiet evening with a sky so clear, one could swear he could see every star there is with a moon shining brightly on the pathway home. When he entered, he was greeted by his Gaffer, who didn't seem a bit happy, compares to Sam who was all-smiles.
,,Oh, good evening" he said politely, trying to not pay much attention to Gaffer's anger.
,,A good evening you say? Well if it were a good evening I wouldn't be hearing such news, now would I?"
Now Sam was REALLY concerned and confused. Usually Gaffer's chill and only scolds him if he's not following his manners right. What news could he be talking about? What news could bother him so much?
,,I- I'm sorry but I really don't know what are you talking 'bout." he stuttered even though he did nothing wrong.
,,Don't know what I'm talking about? Well you know we stick to the traditions right? And you just simply go out there, not even try to hide it, shaming our family so much. I didn't raise you like this Samwise Gamgee."
,,Wha- what have I done to shame our family? I was just hanging out with Mr. Frodo all day, watching my manners, even walking him home so he gets there safely. Please, I really don't know what 'ave I done wrong." Sam was frustrated. He had such a great and fun day and the last thing he would've done is shame his family. How can Gaffer even accuse him of something so..bad? He didn't understand any of it. Gaffer was never this angry or rude to him. In fact it sadden him that he would have even thought about Sam doing something like that.
,,So you'll play dumb yes? Well let me remind you. No Gamgee, and I repeat NO Gamgee, is going to end up like one of them queers. I saw you two today, oh yes I did. And the fancy bouquet he was holding on your way home? Let me guess who could have picked it up for him. Here we follow simple rules. Girls marry boys, boys marry girls. Any other way is disgusting and filthy. And you're not gonna be messing up Mr. Frodo's mind like that because to all of this mess you've gotten ourselves into, I don't want to be on bad manners with Baggings as well, you hear me? Now, I don't want ANY excuses, you are going straight to your room to think of what have you done and in how many ways is it wrong."
Sam couldn't believe it. He was devastated. He knew there would be problems with this, but this time they weren't even holding hands romantically or anything and it resulted in this? He couldn't even imagine what would have happened if Gaffer knew about everything else. And it really hurt him. It really really hurt him. But he didn't have any power over the Gaffer and his decisions. He knew he had to follow them and all the other rules as well.
So he looked down and starting fidgeting with his fingers as he always did when he was nervous, and with a quiet "yes" he started to walk away.
,,And-"
Sam looked around, back at his Gaffer.
,,First thing tomorrow morning you'll do, is make the Baggings some breakfast and work in their garden right after as an apology for all this 'missunderstanding'. All day, no excuses. Goodnight."
Gaffer said sternly, before turning around and storming off to his bedroom.Sam felt his eyes water up. He was lost for words. And at top of all that, he was supposed to go to the library to help Frodo with something. He just wanted to curl up in his bed and cry. So that's what he did until his eyelids felt heavy and he fell into uneasy sleep.
