Part Five: Surprise

They arrived back at Konoha and settled back into the normal grind of low level missions.
Chaos was almost going through the motions as a robot, uninterested.
'Chaos,' drawled a low voice.
She turned to find Nidalee and Akali at her back.
Nidalee's face was carefully blank as always.
'Heard you got back from a mission out of the village a few days ago,' said Akali, the three girls started to walk together.
Chaos nods, 'Yes, it was a successful mission.'
Lives had been lost, but ultimately, their original goal of keeping the bridge builder alive had been met, so Chaos called it a success.
'We don't get good missions,' explained Akali in an annoyed tone, 'Ezreal stuffs them all up,' she scowled.
'Do you train with him?' requested Chaos.
Akali shook her head, 'of course not.'
'Try it,' suggested Chaos, 'push him to be better and you might get better results.'
Nidalee considered Chaos, 'Will you train with us for a few days?' her voice was surprisingly light, if Chaos weren't listening, she wouldn't have heard it.
But Chaos could understand, Nidalee was surprisingly prideful, it was hard for her to ask others for assistance, especially in training.
'Sure,' replies Chaos, 'if timing allows it.'
A smile curls across Akali's mouth, 'I knew we came to you for a reason.'

Mostly, thought Akali to herself, she had come to Chaos, because out of everyone in their old class, Chaos had been the most reserved, and the most serious about training.
That night Chaos slept out in a field, a dog curled at her side, and her star charts scattered around her.
She had been studying the stars when she had fallen asleep cuddling the dog.
Most likely it was one of Kakashi's summons.
Chaos wasn't one hundred present sure.
It was cold, a shiver ran through her.
But she wasn't as cold as she could have been, she found herself pleased with having the dog there.
In her mind she knew she should return home to her bed, where it'd be warmer, but she couldn't bring herself to draw herself away from the dog.
'Chaos?' a voice interrupted her bad attempt at sleep.
Chaos blinked, rubbed her eyes and looked up.
Kakashi knelt, 'what are you doing out here?' he asked.
'I couldn't sleep,' replied the girl, she looked vulnerable as she clung to the dog, staring up at her sensei with childish large eyes.
Kakashi swept up all the star charts and tucked them safely in his pocket, before scooping Chaos up in his arms, the girl, surprisingly didn't protest.
'You can stay at my place, if you stay out here you'll get a cold,' he explained.
Now Kakashi noticed the small dog Chaos was holding, 'Where'd you get that dog?'
So it wasn't one of his summons, Chaos hugged the dog to her chest, 'it found me,' she answered.

===============================

The next morning Chaos woke extra early, she sat the pup in the hood of her top and set out, ready to go and train.
The village was quiet at this time of morning, Chaos almost enjoyed listening to the sound of birds twittering sleepily.
'Surprise!' yelled a voice, and suddenly green eyes were right in front of hers, the shout drew the attention of the few people out and about on the streets, and Chaos almost blushed red under the attention.
Chaos fell back, the pup leaped free of her hood as she landed on her rear.
'What are you doing here?' asked Chaos, her face now showing nothing.
Lilith put her hands on her hips and beamed down at Chaos, 'I'm a citizen of Konoha, now, and one day I'm going to be one of the best ninja you've ever seen.'
She now noticed Chaos's place on the ground and quickly pulled the shorter girl to her feet.
'Do you mind if I stay with you for a while?' beamed Lilith.
'Uhm,' Chaos was unsure about trusting the girl, but decided she'd take the chance, 'Sure.'

============================

Chaos sighed, curling up in a ball on her bed.
She was unable to sleep as always.
Out her window she could see the stars, it was a reassuring sight, but it wasn't helping her sleep at all.
The pup was sound asleep, making soft snoring noises, the sound didn't bother Chaos at all.
She assumed Lilith would be asleep by now, the sun had disappeared what seemed like years ago, when really it was only a few hours ago.
The black haired youth slid off her bed and tip toed through the house into her living room to retrieve her star charts so she could sit up on the roof with them.
Lilith appeared in the doorway, 'Why are you awake?' she yawned, stretching her arms.
'I couldn't sleep.'
'Then what are you doing?'
Chaos held up her star charts, 'I was going to sit on the roof and look at the stars'.
'I'll go with you,' Lilith beamed and followed Chaos up onto the roof.
The blonde curled up at Chaos's side, gazing up at the stars.
Several hours later when Chaos finally felt ready to sleep, she glanced down to find Lilith had fallen asleep.
With a sigh, Chaos lay back, careful of the blonde resting against her side.

============================

Lilith ran her hands over everything, fascinated.
Chaos was away training another team, leaving Lilith to explore the house.
The place was small, it only had two bedrooms, Lilith had immediately moved herself into the second one, intending on staying as long as possible.
There was a knock at the door, Lilith bounded over and flung it open to reveal Naruto and Sasuke standing there.
Naruto stared at her in shock, 'you're the lady from the land of waves! believe it!'
She smiled and waved, 'Hello! my name is Lilith.'
'Where's Chaos?' asked Sasuke in a low murmur.
'She went to help another team train,' replied Lilith cheerfully.
Naruto grumbled, 'She was meant to meet us at the bridge.'
Sasuke sighed.
'I can show you where she went,' volunteered Lilith.
'Arigato,' said Sasuke and the three started down the road.
'Whose that?' asked Lilith, pointing.
Ahead was three ninja, a female and two males.
Lilith scowled at the female, she was pretty with her blonde hair.
'Who are you? believe it' Naruto had ran up to them.
'And what are you doing here?' asked Sasuke, noting their sand village forehead protectors.
The female scowled, 'I'm Temari, this is Gaara and Kankuro.'
'Do you know nothing?' mocked Kankuro, 'We're obviously here for the Chunin exams!'

============================

Chaos could understand why  Akali was so mad, now.
Ezreal wasn't very good at much.
She sighed and pulled Ezreal to his feet, he was looking a little worse for wear, with a black eye and other bruises besides.
'I have to go now, I have to meet my team,' she explained.
Nidalee waved, while Akali didn't acknowledge her leaving at all.
'Chaos!' yelled Naruto at the sight of her, waving, beside him Chaos could see Sasuke and Lilith.
What was Lilith doing out of the house?
Chaos sighed and waved back.
'What are you doing here?' she asked as she neared them, 'I was about to go to our meeting place at the bridge.'
'You were late so we came to find you, believe it!' replied Naruto cheerily.
Sasuke grunted.
'We came across some people from Suna,' informed Lilith, 'Gaara, Temari and Kankuro, they're here for the Chunin exams.'
'The Chunin exams, huh?' pondered Chaos as they neared the bridge.
'Yip yip,' the puppy that had stayed with her came bounding towards her.
Chaos crouched and caught it, scratching it behind it's ear much to it's delight.
Naruto looked interested, 'What's it's name?'
'I'm not sure,' replied Chaos.
Lilith ruffled the puppies fur, 'Can I name it?' she asked.
Chaos considered, she doubted Lilith would come up with anything bad, 'Sure.' she finally decided.
'Asami,' purred Lilith, ruffling the pups fur even further.
Chaos sat Asami in her hood as Kakashi approached them.
'You're late!' scolded Naruto.
'I've got something to talk to you all about,' announced Kakashi.
Everyone learned forward to listen, even Lilith.
'I've decided to put you all forward for the Chunin exams,' he explained, handing out forms, 'Just meet me at the Academy with this form sighed if you are willing to be in it, make sure you're completely sure you want to be in it, give it some thought.'
'This is going to be great, believe it!' Naruto looked enthused.
Kakashi nods and disappears in a puff of smoke.
Lilith snatches the form from Chaos's hand to read it, 'I have an idea,' she tells Lilith.
Chaos tilts her head to the side, a questioning look on her face.
In reply Lilith held a finger to her lips, 'Shh,' then she grabbed Chaos's wrist and dragged her away.
Chaos waved to her team, 'See you tomorrow,' she called, confirming that she would indeed be in the Chunin exams.
