Through the Years with Nick and Charlie

Appointment

  Nick:

It's been about an hour since Charlie told me that we're gonna be parents, and honestly I'm freaking the fuck out because he's right. I'm not gonna be here for majority of his pregnancy, I'll be lucky to be there for the birth even.
    I'm scared shitless for us because I don't want this to let us drift apart, but with leaving Char alone while he's growing our little human, this seems like the perfect recipe for drifting to happen. I know that Charlie won't let me give up my spot on the team even if I wanted to, but I just don't want anything to happen to him or us.

*early the next morning*

     Late last night, I had called my coach and told her that I wasn't going to make practice. I thought it would be a good surprise so char and I could spend the day together, but...he beat me to the surprise factor.

    I woke up from a bright light and a retching sound that I didn't think anything of until I rolled over to find that Charlie wasn't next to me anymore and it clicked. "Shit" I mumble under my breath as I pop up and run to the bathroom. I get there and he's already leaned up against the wall, mouth open, and hand on his stomach " this whole pregnancy thing looks good on you" I say leaned up against the doorframe and with a smile on my face as I see his appear too. "Shut up" I make my way over to him and take a seat right next to his "what are you even doing, you're gonna be late" he asks and I decide to play a bit "what...we have something to do today" "wh- Nick no, you have practice in like 30 minutes" "mmm I don't think so, coach gave me the day off" I say as I nudge into him with my shoulder. He  quickly turns his neck to look over at me "wait really" said with a huge smile on his face and I just nod my head. Char frowns up his face like he's gonna cry as he climbs over into my lap "thank you Nick" he puckers up his lips and of course I kiss them and a little more before I  pull away. I feel like I hear I slight moan come from Charlie but I just disregard it "What do you want to do today...well after we go back to sleep" I ask rubbing along the side of his waist while secretly admiring his body. "Well I uhh had booked an appointment with Elle for today for an ultrasound" he says looking apologetic "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were taking off today and I know we promised to communicate and everything, I just thought it would've been cute to surprise you with the sonogram" I grab his face "baby I'm not mad, like you said, you didn't know....but um, could I go" I ask praying the answer is yes. Charlie chuckles "Obviously Nick, i love Elle but i'd much rather have you there" my smile disappears slowly as I realize there won't be too many appointments where I can be there. Charlie notices and knows exactly what I was thinking "nooo, it's a happy thing baby, I'm excited for us to have this experience, to be parents, and go to these appointments, so let's just focus on this one , not anything else right now" I nod my head and smile into another kiss before picking him up and walking us back over to our bed "ahh my big, strong rugby lad" he smirks as I lay him down carefully. I climb in behind him and cuddle Charlie in close "Goodnight love" "goodnight"

    A couple hours later and I'm back up, admiring the beautiful man that I get to call my husband. I can't help myself but run my hands through his soft curls. This ends up relaxing me too, to where I stop massaging his head, almost falling back asleep until I hear a groan come from Charlie "oh..good morning love" I say making him rollover and look up at me "hi" said with a kiss after "I'll never get over waking up to you" he says making me smile "and then soon we'll have a little Nelson somewhere in these sheets" he continues making us both laugh. I snuggle up close to him with my hand rubbing his stomach. We share a kiss here and there until we're both ready to get up.

  "Nick, the appointment is at 12:30 and it'll take 25 minutes to get there, I want to be early though so I-" Charlie starts to go on from the bathroom before I make my way to him and wrap my arms around from behind "baby don't worry, we can get there at 12:00 if you want" I say leaving a kiss on his neck. Charlie leans back resting his head against my shoulder, closing his eyes "Can we do something nice after" he asks "whatever you want baby" "I want a nice fat burger and to eat it at the pier" "sounds fantastic"
    It's 15 to 12:00 and Charlie keeps checking the GPS to see if any traffic has picked up. "Char" I get a "hm" in reply "Do you just want to leave now" I ask and he sighs coming to sit next to me on our couch "sorry" " I'm gonna like subtract a kiss every time you say that word for no reason" he laughs before I continue "you have nothing to be sorry about, you're just nervous so c'mon" I say getting up reaching for his hand.

    We get in the car making sure we have the right address and then putting on our playlist. Charlie is understandably quiet so I just grab his hand and rest them on his thigh. I see a smile peeking through making me smile
     We arrive to the clinic and we are in fact almost 40 minutes early "do you wanna go in now or" "no" he replies quickly "ok" "Nick what if I did something i wasn't supposed to when I didn't even know I was pregnant, what if I like gave them health problems already, I'd never forgive myself" I get out of the car and walk over to Charlie's side. I open the door to kiss him and then lock the doors and head into the clinic.

"Hi, how can I help you today" the lady at the desk asks "um hi, my husband had scheduled an appointment for 12:30 with Dr.Montgomery, but I was wondering if there was any way we could get in a little sooner" I ask hopeful "oh yes I can definitely check" I wait anxiously waiting for the answer " So she's actually free right now but it'll be like 5 minutes to prep the room, is that ok" I smile "yes that's perfect actually, thank you so much"
   I walk out of the clinic and run back to the car and open Charlie's door "Nick what the hell" I grab his hand "come on, I got the appointment moved up" "W-wait what" he stumbles out of the car " I'm not sure if you can hold off for another 30 minutes, so I asked if they could take you now and they said yes" I say with excitement as he smiles and shakes his head "you're a mess Nick"

     We made it into the room and greet Dr.M before we start to answer a questionnaire.
    A little later, Charlie gets up into the exam chair and the ultrasound started. "This might be a little cold" the doctor says and Charlie does in fact flinch, I chuckle at that. "Let's see if we can find the little one" Dr.M says moving all around Charlie's stomach "spotted" I jump up to get a better look at the screen "oh my goodness" I smile and walk over to Charlie and hold his hand while still looking at the screen "So you said you found out yesterday" she asks and we nod our heads "well it looks like you're about 4 weeks right now, so just under a month" I quickly turn and face Charlie who has his jaw dropped "but no worries, baby is looking 100% healthy so keep it up" she continues and I just feel the relief come over me and char.

       We finish off the rest of the appointment and head to the car. Before I start to drive I checked on Charlie" how do you feel love" "I feel great and relieved, a little funny about me being four weeks though, like how did I not know" I smile at his glow " it makes sense though, people don't usually have drastic symptoms until at least 3 weeks" "yeah, how about you though" he asks me and I sigh before replying "I'm happy, excited, and scared fucking shitless" I say with a smile making Charlie laugh. "Well at least we're on the same page"
    We finish our conversation and head towards a local restaurant to pick up burgers and chips (fries) "ughhh I'm so excited for this burger" I hear Charlie let out from beside me making me laugh "how long have you been wanting this" "like a week" there's a pause in the conversation before I raise my hand that's interlocked with Charlie's. I glance down at the sonogram that's down in his lap, then back up at the road " I hope they have your curly hair" I say  hearing a laugh "You're so corny" "ok maybe but I'm serious" I say as he kisses my hand that is still interlocked with his "I do want them to have your eyes, nose, and personality...god I hope they have your personality" I laughed "look who's corny now" "still you, nice try though" he smiles at me

We were pretty much quiet for the rest of the ride until we reached the burger place
"K, you ready" I ask "so ready" he says getting out the car and I greet him with my hand as we walk in. We ordered and waited to get our to go bag and head to the pier to eat.
    We made it to the pier after a quick drive. I grab everything and set it up to where Charlie will be comfortable at the picnic table.
    I let him eat a bit before I start a conversation "is it everything you ever wanted" I ask "No you are" I blush at that with a cheesy smile "yet I'm the cheesy one" "yup" I wait a little to speak again until I blurt out "are we gonna tell people or like have a baby shower" I ask and he takes a while to respond and I panic at if I said the wrong thing "sorry we don't have to talk about it right now, but eventually yeah" I say "no it's fine you just caught me off guard but  yeah I'd like to tell people and maybe a baby shower, I'd want you to be there if there is one" I sigh at that knowing what he means " I will, I promise, we've just gotta find a good date" there's a pause "what about a baby moon, like where we go on a trip" he says with excitement, but I know he's just trying to lighten up the mood but I just go along with it. "Where would you want to go" "mmm, I have no clue" said with a smile.
