They weren’t alone, the realisation made Mackenzie jump up from where she was sat and run to the radio.

“Are you cozy in there.” The voice on the radio asked.

Moving past the inital relief hearing the voice gave him, Rick grew slightly suspicious. How had the person seen them? How had the person not gotten seen? How had the person not been bitten by walkers?

Mackenzie did not feel the same suspicion though, she picked up the radio and held it up.

“Real cozy thanks.” She began “Also ya cant say ‘dumbass’ tha’s a swear word, it’s rude.”

The man didnt say anything back for a while, Mackenzie thought he had gone. She put the radio down slowly, lowering her head.

“Oh shit, there’s a kid?” The voice said after a moment.

Mackenzie smiled, happy that he didn’t leave. Rick walked to the radio trying to get it out of her hand.

“Lemme talk to ‘im.” Mackenzie whispered.

Rick wasn’t sure why she was whispering but he shrugged, a few seconds of her talking to the man won’t hurt anyone he thought.

“Hey, you alive in there?” The voice asked.

“Ya can’t say that word neither.” She told the radio man.

Rick shook his head in disbelief, smiling slightly at Mackenzie comments he looked around the tank hearing all the walkers banging on it.

“Not the time, put the big guy on.” The voice told her.

Mackenzie sighed and passed Rick the radio, she got up and stood behind him.

“Hello?” Rick said, he grabbed onto the beams of the tank.

Now that she wasnt concentrating on the radio and the voice coming from it, Mackenzie herself noticed the motherfuckers climbing the tank. She stood closer to Rick, she knew they couldn’t get in but a part of her still worried. Rick placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed it slightly. Instantly, Mackenzie took a step back away from him and stared at the radio.

“There you are, she had me worried. Thought there was only the kid left.” the voice sighed, Mackenzies eyes narrowed ever so slightly though she didn’t know why.

“Where are you? Outside?” Rick asked “Can you see us right now?”

“Yeah, I can see you both.” The voice replied instantly.

Mackenzie rocked on the edges of her feet, biting her nail. This person might be their only chance at living she realised and she wasted time talking about his language.

Daddy would be furious, she thought.

“You’re surrounded by walkers.” Mackenzie focused on the words he was saying, even though they weren’t what she was wanting to hear. “That’s the bad news.”

“There’s good news?” Mackenzie whispered looking up at Rick, a smile tugging at her lips.

He glanced down at her and shrugged slightly.

“There’s good news?” He echoed Mackenzies question to the man.

“No.” The voice whispersd.

“Oh.” Mackenzie sighed.

Her face dropped. She leaned on the edge of her foot again, pulling at hangnails. Ricks face hardened, his eyebrowed furrowed slightly.

“Listen whoever you are, I don’t mind telling you we’re a little concerned in here.” Rick began “You know there’s a kid in here and bringing her hopes up before shitting on them isn’t some kind of fun game.”
