Author's note: We have hit 50 chapters! :D

Although, this isn't the 50th story, since the first chapter is the table of contents. I have something special planned for the 50th story.

Also, this takes place in the birb au.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Four... why do they call him that? What does it even mean? Is he the fourth blue jay?

These humans are weird....

But they're also scary, they have all sorts of scary pointy things that love to use on him.

Right now, he was in a cage... He kind of wish he was back in his cell... At least they couldn't get through to him that way.

One of them said something he couldn't understand... But the next thing Four knew; they were carrying him somewhere...

--------------------------------------------------------------

The place he was brought to was much brighter than his cell... there were these tall brown things with green things on top of them.

Was this the outside world? Was he finally free?

The human left, leaving the cage open for Four to get out of. He flapped with wings in excitement.

He was free!

Four leaped off the ground... only to fall five seconds later...

Oh right; he never learned how to fly. And his cell was so cramped that he didn't have any room to ever practice in there.

There's no way he's free... these scary human beings are too smart to do something like that.

Four heard something shake behind him; he turned around to see something red quickly hide behind one of the tall brown things.

"Hello? Is someone there?" Four asked. "I'm not going to hurt you..."

The red thing he saw earlier brought its head back from the tall brown thing. It was another avian; one of his wings were smaller than the other.

"Uh, Hi..." Four awkwardly waved at the cardinal. He's never really talked to another avian before...

"Are you Four?" The cardinal asked.

Four's feathers stiffen. "How did you know my name?"

"The scientist said something about adding in another avian in here... I overheard them." He explained.

Four eyes widen. "You can understand them?" Four was in awe at the cardinal's talent.

"Yep, I'm Fm by the way." Fm said, he held out his hand.

Four had seen the huma- scientists do something similar. He got closer and shook Fm's hand.

After a while they both let go. Four looked around at the strange new place. "So, are we the only ones here?"

Fm shook his head. "No, there's also X, apparently he has a brother; but he isn't doing well."

Four let felt bad. "Wait, where is X?" He asked.

Fm brought Four over to a nest; inside was a parrot with green and yellow wings. He was fast asleep.

Suddenly the parrot stirred. "Nintey-six, I swear if you tried to put bugs in my nest again..." He rubbed the sleep from his eyes to see Four and Fm there. "Oh... sorry about that... I didn't much sleep last night..."

"Hey, you don't to apologize X." Fm got into the nest and put his left wing over him. "Last night seemed pretty... hectic for you."

X looked at Four. "So, you're the new face here? Nice to meet you, my real name is Ninety-seven; but that's too similar to my bro... so, you can call me X."

"I'm Four... say Fm, do you have any idea what our names mean?" The blue jay tilted his head.

Fm shrugged. "No, clue... Sorry."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

It was the three of them in this strange new place for a while, during this time, Fm was taken out and came back with something.

"What's that?" Four asked.

Fm was holding the thing so close to his body that neither X nor Four could see what it was. Fm place thing he was holding in his arms onto his nest. It was a funny looking bird.

"This... is Cube. One of the scientists had brought in one of their younglings. She gave me Cube so I would be less lonely." Fm said.

"I'm surprised they didn't try to take it away from you..." X said.

Fm puffed up his chest. "Oh, they did. But the only thing they got, were claws." He let out a chuckle. "Oh! Good news, X! I overheard the scientists saying that your brother is doing better."

X seem to brighten at that. "Oh, thank heavens."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Ninety-six came back; someone came along with him.

A starling, and he had the most beautiful feathers Four had ever seen. Suddenly, he felt nervous going up and meeting this new avian.

"Wait; where's Four?" He heard X ask. "I swore he was right here."

"Four?" He heard someone ask; his voice seemed deeper than the rest of them. "Hey, Three, it seems someone's trying to copy you." He joked.

Ah, so that must have been Ninety-six talking...

Four peaked from behind the trees, as he learned on what they're called; to get another peak at Three.

His wings were a mix of black with blue and purple specks. His eyes were like the setting sun, and he was looking straight at Four.

Four felt his face go hot and he ducked behind the tree. He fell on the ground, hurting his tail in the process.

He heard someone walking up to him.

"Hey? Are you okay?" It was Three.

Four was too embarrassed to say anything. He looked away from Three.

The two of them heard someone giggle. They looked up to see Ninety-six was on one of the lower branches on the tree.

"Aww, this is so cute." He let out another laugh.

Three's face became red, his feather's fluffed up. "Shut up!"

Four let out a tiny snicker... Three looked away in his own embarrassment.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Four?" The blue-jay snapped out of his thoughts, he turned to face Three. "You good? You're not planning another escape plan, are you?"
Four chuckled. "No, I was thinking back to when we first met... that's all."
Three's face began to blush. "God, that was embarrassing."
Four nuzzled closer to Three. "Yeah... I wouldn't change that for the world though..."
Three sighed. "Yeah." He let out a yawn. "Goodnight."
"Night, Three." Four looked down at the egg. It was right where it always was... right in-between the two of them.
"I can't wait to meet you."
