In the morning, I went down to the house early. Isa was an early bird and I needed the reception to call my dads after forgetting to do it the night before.

People can call me at the summer house, but I cannot call them unless I'm at the main house.

I say this to explain how I picked up the phone to Dad Darryl as I stepped outside after getting changed.

"Hey," I said quietly, moving to go sit at the front of the summer house on the deck.

"Why didn't you call last night?" he asked.

The view looked absolutely stunning, and I made a mental note to take pictures later.

"A lot of stuff happened" I settled for saying, not ready to get into all the Megan drama from the night before.

"Okay, but nothing bad?"

"Nothing bad, I love you."

I love my dad, but sometimes it's great to be away from him for a while.

Went back inside to grab my bag, Megan was still snoozing.

She would know to go down to the main house, so I left without anything else and an unmade bed.

........

"MORNING!" Trent screamed at me from the workshop balcony. It wrapped round the whole thing, and he was sitting on the bench.

"You are extremely loud," I commented on my walk down as the dogs jumped around me in excitement.

"WE'RE GOING TO TARBERT!" T responded, still screeching like Satan himself was coming after him.

But it made me laugh, and I was excited too for going to Tarbert.

Isa had told me everything I needed to know, like where all the good shops are and to definitely not go with Trent when he asks and begs and pleads to climb up the very hard and tiring hill to go see the castle.

Basically, all the important stuff.

Sitting at the table, Isa and Alice were watching something on one of their phones.

Sharing the screen and based off the voices and music, it was Trolls: The Beat Goes On.

I don't know, they find it cute for whatever reason.

"Morning," Isa said.

And I didn't say much, only grabbed a few Oreos from the extremely large biscuit tub from the kitchen and retreated to the living room armchair with my book.

It was fun listening to the commentary from the girls as I read.

"Ooh, Archer Pastry. You are so gonna be friends with her."

"Wonder where Creepy Creek is. If he sells them out again I'll kick something."

"Called it! In your face!"

"Oh crap!"

"Wait, what!?"

"Why the hell would you end it there!"

"Now I know Creep sold them out again."

Somehow they didn't even stop talking when Megan walked in.

I only looked at her long enough to roll my eyes in a typical irritated fashion.

"You two need to chill," I said to Alisa in the kitchen. "That was a DreamWorks series for children."

Don't even know why I bothered trying with these two, to be honest.

"There was Star Wars references," Isa pointed out, "and I haven't even seen any of those films!"

I definitely heard a dramatic sigh after that.

While Megan was getting herself some toast, the conversation shifted to their OTP.

"Okay, it seems like DreamWorks suddenly just wants them to be best friends."

"I don't buy it, not one bit."

Made me think of the other night, and that particular memory made me feel awkward.

So with a loud sigh, I shoved my book mark into my place in the book and rose up.

"It was an animated series, chill out already please," I said.

Heaven knows why I thought this trip would be a good idea in the first place.

In the bathroom, I was just picking up my toothbrush when I heard; "It's not entirely that hard to animate a kiss."

Which could only mean one thing.

"You watched the Home series too?" I asked, swinging the door back open.

Isa looked smug and Alice was trying to either not laugh or not grin.

"Maybe."

With a sigh, I shut the door again and let the toothbrush buzz.

Even with that, I could hear laughter.

.................

In the car, I guess I was a bit of a nervous wreck. Overexcited and nervous? Absolutely.

"This is gonna be so much fun, isn't it?" I was saying just as the car was moving down the hill behind Isa and Jake's.

Meg wasn't even looking at me, she watched the world go by out her window. Didn't say much, while I went on and on about oh so many things while at the same time mentally screaming at myself to just shut the hell up.

"I've heard about all the great places there too, and obviously I know to avoid the castle when Trent asks about it."

She was clearly not even listening, but I was full of butterflies.

When we got there I was even more psyched up but finally put a lid on it.

Trent and Jake's conversation was extremely fun to listen to on the walk over. Every single girl that passed they got sassy about in whispers over hairstyles.

"She needs a trim."

"Overall may need to shave the whole thing."

"Should have blonde streaks."

"Uh uh, clearly and too much of it dyed."

Amusing and clearly hilarious, but Meg was still quiet so I gave her a nudge.

"You okay?" I asked.

Tried to stay calm, and succeeded. My stomach still had crazy butterflies.

And the cookies, I stored them away for emergencies. She isn't the only one who likes them.

"Are we ever going to talk about what happened?" she asked as I was getting some water out my bag.

"I don't know, Trent and Jake would have the worst reaction if they knew," I lied.

Because she believed they still would, and I couldn't handle dropping any more big bombshells like that.

So why not settle for the other parts of the truth?

"Isa and Alice, they'd be a lot easier about it. When I became friends with them they would always tell me how cute you and I would be as a couple," I went on.

Very true, and they had caught me sighing dramatically at the mere thought of her so eventually the truth came out.

"But then that's when you got scary, acting like you straight up hated me. I fell for you anyway and that was a rollercoaster of trying not to embarrass myself around you."

I remembered that part well, like Meg would see me in the halls and instantly turn around to go the other way. Hurtful but I always thought it was because she followed a rule saying you cannot like your sibling's ex.

Still can't believe I was right the whole time.

We were left in silence the rest of the wait, and then it was carrying the bags onboard.

And we were on the way.
