Do not get me started on dress shopping, I went with my aunt Rebecca.

She was the closest thing I had to a mother figure and I was desperate for someone, anyone actually, other than Darryl.

He would be disappointed, I knew, but it's just easier with another girl.

"So here we go, all the dance gowns you teenage girls go crazy for," Rebecca had said in the actually bigger than you think dress section in a clothing store I didn't remember the name of because it's not that important.

"Got it," I said, trying to shoo her away. "Now you go find something you want, like a purse or something."

She rolled her eyes.

"FYI, I'm looking for shoes."

And then I was alone.

It's better sometimes actually, I guess Megan was right about that.

Red seemed too common, so did black, and I didn't want to go too bold with something floral.

Although the floral dresses were pretty, I'll admit.

I thought many times about bring Trent and Jake over after that afternoon.

So after texting Becks and telling her I was in the changing room bit, I went and tried on the dress.

Only one thing came to mind; my dads would flip their shit.

It was a little small, going just past the knees but still left a lot of my legs showing.

Not that it mattered, because I had fallen in love with it anyway.

"That's a good one."

Rebecca was back, with a new pair of shoes in her hand. I didn't bother asking how expensive these ones would be.

"I was just looking," I mutter, suddenly embarrassed.

She swept the curtain back over, but I could see from the bottom she was still standing outside.

"So, do you have a date to the dance yet?" Becks asked as I carefully slid out the dress.

"Kind of," I answered.

I was not ready to start with these questions just yet. Wanted to survive the whole road trip thing first, actually.

But Rebecca doesn't give up easily and badgered on about it.

"Boy? Girl? Friend? Someone else? Spill!"

"OKAY!"

We were going back to the house, or at least that's what was meant to be happening. Rebecca hadn't even started the car and proceeded to badger on at me about my date.

I didn't care anymore, all I wanted was peace.

"A girl, but I haven't even asked her yet," I settled for saying. "She might hate me, anyway."

Becks was thrilled either way, smiling brightly and squealing in that high school teen way.

Then we were finally going home.

.....................

The Friday when Megan was completely exhausted? That was actually fun, because then I had a chance to hang out with her and help.

Not that much work to do at all, she slept her way through maths.

Isa was looking at me knowingly, and I rolled my eyes at her.

She knew, obviously. So did the others.

And it was.....okay. Like, there wasn't a whole lot of fuss.

T was alright with it as long as I didn't hurt her.
